Celebrating Happiness Happens Month!

Dear Friends,

I was recently made aware of a secret society - which, of course, instills mystery and intrigue!  This particular group has a unique mission: to stimulate people's right to express their happiness. Crazy, right? Or maybe not.

The Secret Society of Happy People was just months old in 1998 when its founder Pamela Johnson challenged advice columnist Ann Landers for discouraging people from writing happy holiday letters enclosed in their holiday cards. In writing Landers, Johnson demanded an apology "to the millions of people you made feel bad for wanting to share their happy news." Landers actually overturned her advice as this was an extremely rare incident that created a change of heart for the advice columnist.

August is now deemed Happiness Happens Month and we are all encouraged to be, well, happy! We should feel free to share happy news and look for moments of happiness as we go about each day. I hope you'll find some happiness and inspiration in this edition of our newsletter. You'll find:
Happiness sometimes is just what you make it. What are you feeling happy about? I'd love to hear from you!

Gratefully yours,

Auxiliary Volunteers - "People Want to Give Back"

With all of its facilities, personnel, and technology, most of us find a hospital visit intimidating. It's large, it's busy, and we're not there for social reasons -- it's because we or someone we love need care.  That's why it's so helpful to have a friendly, caring face greet us when we
come through the doors.  There's someone at the front desk to answer our questions, point us in the right direction, and put us at ease.  But she's not just working behind a desk.  She may be visiting patients, assisting in an office, busy in the hospital gift shop, or running a major fundraiser.  She's the very human face of your local hospital, is crucial to its operations -- and doesn't receive a dime in pay for all she does.

Breathe easier.
McLaren comprehensive lung cancer detection program

McLaren Flint offers a specialized program to answer questions and help those who are eligible receive a simple, painless chest CT scan. And, if lung cancer is suspected based on the scan results, McLaren Flint can provide seamless access to advanced diagnostics and care by a team of medical experts in the management of lung disease and the treatment of cancer.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved coverage for annual chest CT scans as preventive care, making annual lung screenings a covered benefit for qualifying individuals. Patients with insurance (including Medicaid) are responsible for co-pays and deductibles.

Who qualifies for the test?

Anyone between the ages of 55-77 with a tobacco smoking history of at least 30 'pack years' (one pack of cigarettes a day for 30 years, two packs a day for 15 years, or 3 packs a day for 10 years).

Call and speak to our certified physician assistant. We are here to help you breathe easier when it comes to your lung health.
