A Special Message from the Director

It is with mixed emotions that I share my upcoming departure from UC San Diego and my role as Director of the Black Resource Center (BRC). Since July 2013, I've had the distinct pleasure, honor and task of establishing the foundation of this phenomenal Campus Community Center. Through collaborations and support from so many units, the BRC has flourished. It is not merely a hub for student interaction and engagement but also a place where faculty and staff gather, meet and connect.

With the support of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, the BRC has benefited from not only programmatic growth but also physical expansion by acquiring additional square footage last academic year. During the same time, the professional team has expanded to include a third staff member. I'm proud to say that my role as the Director of the Black Resource Center has allowed me to participate in such a monumental campus transformation at UC San Diego.  I have no doubt that the BRC will only continue to expand and grow in the coming years.

My departure comes as the result of an incredible opportunity for my family to relocate back to our home state of North Carolina through a promotion for my husband. As some of you may know, my family and I have been on the west coast for more than a decade so we can't pass up this chance to be closer to relatives while advancing professionally. While I'm currently unsure of my next step, we are moving to an area rich with opportunities in higher education (in close proximity to Duke University, North Carolina Central University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University among others).

It has been my pleasure to meet and interact with so many brilliant students, amazing colleagues and dedicated staff and faculty members.  I trust that you will continue to support the programming & events of the Black Resource Center this academic year and beyond. Assistant Director Porsia Curry, FOE Coordinator Troy Williams and the 2016-17 Student Success Leaders (aka the BRC Dream Team) have an outstanding year of events planned. 2016-2017 will be epic!

My final day will be Wednesday, August 31, 2016.  VC EDI Becky Petitt will be hosting a thank you and farewell gathering on August 31st  from 3-4:30 in University Center 111A. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Frank Silva at [email protected].

If we aren't already connected, please connect with me on LinkedIn.

All the best,
Stacia
