Dear Schofield Families,

Each month we will be emailing a monthly newsletter with important dates and information. In addition to the newsletter, we will use Facebook to communicate with our families. Be sure to "Like" our page and check it often for reminders and student learning highlights. Our website is also a great source for information. Be sure to check it out at republicschools.org.

Schofield's School Improvement Plan

Schofield Elementary's School Improvement Plan is
currently being drafted and will align to the district's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Educators are currently working to set goals for the following areas: attendance, discipline, literacy and numeracy. The goals in the plan will guide the work of educators and students this year. A monthly update on progress toward meeting goals will be provided to families and students. Stay tuned!
Standards Based Grading Expansion

We are excited to expand Standards Based Grading here at Schofield Elementary! Over the last four years our district has been researching and piloting this grading system. In fact, many of you have experienced SBG in your previous classrooms as approximately 71% of our elementary classrooms have piloted it.  This grading system tells us SO MUCH MORE about how our students are doing in school in comparison to the traditional grading system (A, B, C, etc.).

Standards Based Grading is a best practice grading  and reporting system that gives students, parents and teachers detailed information about how each individual student is performing on specific learning goals (or standards). Instead of an overall A, B, C, etc., students now receive an "advanced", "met", "approaching", or "not met" on each individual learning goal (or standard). These new grades give students, parents and teachers the opportunity to specifically identify where the child is excelling and where they need extra assistance.

Check out the video below to learn more! Also, we invite you to visit  republicschools.org/SBG to find answers to frequently asked questions, and to find additional resources.

This year students in Kindergarten through 5th grade will use Standards Based Grading.  The first progress report will go home  September 16 . Contact your child's teacher or our building office with any questions you might have about SBG!
Student Celebrations

In addition to celebrating classroom goals, Schofield would also like to celebrate student accomplishments outside of the classroom. Please send a picture and description of your child's celebration to the below email addresses and we will add them to our Schofield Spotlight board in the cafeteria. Pictures can also be sent to your child's teacher. Pictures will be displayed in the cafeteria for everyone to enjoy!

Safe, Respectful and Responsible

Schofield educators have been teaching building and classroom expectations to students these first few days of school. Teaching expectations at the beginning of the year ensures optimal use of learning time throughout the school year. Expectations for each area of the building and instructional activities in the classroom have been posted and practiced. Schofield students will be using the 7 Habits to be safe, responsible and respectful lifelong learners and leaders this year!

Students in kindergarten are following Mr. Mac's expectations. Each classroom has a special Mr. Mac that helps teach classroom and building expectations.

Text Opt-in Campaign

PARENTS/GUARDIANS: To receive texts from us be sure you have opted in to do so!

If you are pretty confident your cell number is in our system first try manually texting "Y" to code 67587. If that goes through, you will receive a confirmation text letting you know you are signed up to receive future texts. If that works, you are good to go.

However, if that does not work please contact the building your child attends to double-check that your number is in our system correctly.  If it's not, they will manually put it in the system and then you should receive the opt-in message the next day.

If your number is already in our system, the issue is most likely with your wireless carrier. In that case you will need to contact your wireless provider and let them know you are unable to receive SMS messages. They should be able to turn them on. Thank you!
Schofield's Counseling Program

Students in kindergarten and first grade went on a letter hunt this year to find educators around the building that can help them during their day. Mr. Gasper's class found Ms. P, Schofield's K-2 counselor. Ms. P and Ms. Fenske will begin visiting classrooms next week.

Schofield Tiger Paws

Schofield students earn Tiger Paws each day for being safe, respectful and responsible. Classes spin the celebration wheel when they earn 50 paws! We already have four classes that have earned 50 paws. They are well on their way signing the Paw of Fame!
