AHEC West  Annual Awards Dinner
AHEC West celebrated area health professionals, and 40 years of service to the region, at its annual awards dinner held June 21 at Rocky Gap Casino & Resort.
One of more than 300 Area Health Education Centers in the U.S., AHEC West traces its roots to 1976 when the Cumberland Area Health Education Center was formed to recruit and retain physicians and other health professionals in Western Maryland
 
As part of an expanded mission to improve access to and promote quality in health care through  educational and other partnerships, AHEC West each year hosts an  annual banque t to recognize leaders in the healthcare field. This year's 40th anniversary event featured nine healthcare professionals honored for their efforts in promoting the  work of AH EC West.
 
Susan Stewart, executive director of AHEC West, commended the award winners and others in the c
ommunity for spear- heading the local, regional and state partnerships that are critical to organization's efforts. "Everything we do is collaborative in nature and born from identified needs," she said. "We could not achieve our mission without our partners."
