The Career Connect 8th Grade Expo is a one-day event for all 5,200+ eighth grade students in the District to experience meeting with businesses and higher education representatives. Set for Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the Douglas County Event Center, between 70-80 employers from a variety of career interest areas are expected to attend.

Could your company or organization help spark interest in the next generation of Douglas County employees and business owners? All fields are welcome, but the following are in high demand from our student population: entrepreneurial business owners, architecture, journalism/new media, counseling, psychology, computer gaming and technology. Interested or know of a company we should recruit? More information can be found  here.

Annual Fall Chapter Meeting - Wed. 8/31
DCEF will host its Annual Fall Chapter meeting on Wednesday, August 31st at Castle View High School in the commons area. Check in will begin at 6:30 pm. There will be a vendor showcase from 6:30 to7:15 pm, at which time the program will begin. Following the program DCEF will host several breakout sessions, including treasurer training and fundraising tips. Light refreshments will be served and there will be many opportunities to win prizes from our vendors. We encourage you to send as many representatives as you can since it is a great opportunity to network with other Chapters, to meet several of our partners and new vendors, as well as receive pertinent updates and information on best practices. Please RSVP to [email protected] with the names (or number) of attendees from your Chapter. See you on the 31st!

For Treasurers
Each year, the issue of whether Chapters can pay District employees for services outside their normal job, comes up again and again. The answer is, yes, Chapters can fund these costs, but they cannot pay the employee directly as they would a parent or regular vendor. Employees must be paid through their school or site, whether for coaching, teaching enrichment courses, or for some other service they provide. Please have the employee submit an invoice to you for their services so that you can then submit a pay voucher to DCEF. Please include the employee ID on the form. We will reach out to your site bookkeeper to process this extra pay. The employee will receive payment for their services via their regular paycheck. Keep in mind that payroll is processed once each month, on the 20th, and employer paid PERA and Medicare will apply to all wages earned, so budget accordingly. Once the payroll is processed, DCEF will transfer funds from the Chapter account to the school or site to reimburse these costs.
Chapter Highlights
The DCEF would like to welcome two new Chapters from Legend High School to the Foundation. The first group, called EDGE, is a unique booster club that is designed to raise funds for the EDGE Learning program at the high school. EDGE is a pathway developed to create opportunities for students to experience authentic learning in a real world environment, such as through field trips, internships, business partnerships, etc. This year 115 freshman are expected to participate in the program.

The second club is the Legend Poms Fund. The booster will fundraise to support the spirit activities of the Legend Poms Team and their appearances at local, regional and national competitions.  Legend has  43  girls on their freshman,  junior varsity and varsity teams.   Last year the team finished first place in the Lyrical and Jazz categories at an NDA competition .  They look forward another strong year!
