As the incoming president, I would like to thank you for electing me as your leader. It is an honor and a privilege to lead this chapter and I look forward to making memories with all of you. Going in to our 50th year as a chapter, my goal is to not only to carry on the magnificent work of our past presidents, but also to improve the quality of our programs while forging new relationships with other HFMA chapters and like-minded organizations. My goal as president is for all of us as a chapter to "step it up" this year. My hope is that we will host meaningful educational events with increased attendance from our members, and I can promise you, that we will have fun along the way.
My history with HFMA begins in 2007 when I first joined the chapter and volunteered for a community benefit event for Bo's Place.

Studies in Innovation:
Redirecting High-Cost Care
|
|
Diaa Alqusairi, PhD Senior Staff Analyst |
A major contributor to high healthcare cost is the unnecessary use of emergency department services (ED) when urgent or even primary care would be appropriate.
In December 2014, the Houston Fire Department's (HFD) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division initiated a program designed to redirect non-emergent cases to more appropriate care settings, such as primary care clinics.
Called ETHAN (Emergency Telehealth and Navigation), the program incorporates mobile technologies to triage EMS 911 cases.

Millennials Force Healthcare in
Digital Direction
|
|
|
|
Bruce Haupt President Clear Balance |
Millennials raised in the digital age with the convenience of online services are driving healthcare providers to change how they engage with patients and improve the customer service aspect of care. While older generations value in-person communication and cultivating relationships with medical professionals, millennials desire a different approach.

Meet Dena McNeill
Who Knew?
What was your journey into healthcare?
I knew that I wanted to go into the healthcare industry when I was in high school. I grew up in a small town in West Texas. All the pharmaceutical reps would come thru town and end up eating at my Dad's restaurant. I loved talking to them and .....
What is something personal and funny?
In junior high, my nickname was,
"Sweet Talker"......

Immediate Past President
Thank You!
Outstanding Job!!
What was your journey into healthcare?
My forage into health care started in the 7th grade. I can remember the seat in the class room I was sitting in, second row, third seat back. My science teacher asked each of us what we wanted to do when we grew up. Put on the spot, and at the time loving science and math more than boys, finance or organizational behavior, I answered back....
What are you most proud of during your presidency?
During my Presidency, one area that I put the majority of my efforts into was onboarding and setting up an infrastructure with our new administrative team, DeMarse Events.
