Program Topic:
MAKING A COMPELLING CASE FOR SUPPORT | Measuring the Outcomes of the Work
This thirty minute presentation is for fund raising professionals, particularly grant writers, who want all the arrows in their quivers when targeting donors. Speaker Ann Rice describes the ways in which measuring outcomes benefits organizations and persuades funders that clients change as a result of your good work. Organized by the five best reasons that your donor appeal should focus on RESULTS, Rice will also illustrate what constitutes a real outcome versus just activities and numbers served. Audience participation will be encouraged
About the Presenter: Ann Rice
A twenty-five year veteran of United Way of Tarrant County TX, Ann Rice served most recently as Chief Operating Officer of this nationally recognized organization. In this capacity, she was responsible for community planning and problem-solving, fund distribution, research and information services, the Area Agency on Aging, public policy advocacy and community and agency relations. Focusing specifically on education, income and health as the building blocks of United Way's work, Ann co-created three significant multi-year initiatives as platforms for United Way's approximately $6 million annual investment.
Prior to her work with United Way, Ann launched two important organizations - Toscanini Infant Center at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Tarrant County Challenge, a key advocate for substance abuse services in our community. In the latter position, she was awarded a 5-year federal Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) grant to promote community organizing in four Fort Worth neighborhoods where the personal devastation caused by alcohol and drug abuse had affected entire communities. Twenty years later, Ann again served one of these communities as Chair of the Near Southeast Weed and Seed organization.
In all of these capacities, Ann honed her skills in non-profit management, strategic planning, group facilitation, research, writing, and outcome measurement.
She currently serves as Chair of the Board of Fort Worth Sister Cities. Past board service includes the Rotary Club of Fort Worth, the Women's Policy Forum, the Funding Information Center, the Fort Worth Theater, and Courage and Renewal North Texas. Ann is married to Patrick Miller, Registrar of Texas Christian University.

President's Message
JULY 2015 |
As dedicated development professionals, we all care about the work we do and try to do our best to help our community. The resources available through AFP can really be a lifeline to help us navigate the various challenges in our profession. Whether it is attending monthly meetings in Fort Worth and connecting with others or taking advantage of online tools, we can all hopefully gain benefits from our memberships.
AFP Resources
Have you visited AFP International's website recently? They are continually working to make improvements and provide helpful content. A recently found favorite is
Action
University
, which is an online professional development tool for AFP members. Action University takes a best-selling business book and summarizes it into a 10-15 minute video. Each video is accompanied by a workbook and a PDF summary. The PDF summary will be available to the public. However, the videos, workbooks, and other materials will be exclusive member benefits, and will require you to login using your AFP username ID and password to access. You can find the link under the Professional Development tab at the top of the homepage.

Is AFP Board Service Calling Your Name? |
It is once again time to plan for our chapter's future leadership. Even though it's only spring time, we're already looking ahead to the 2016 chapter board. Serving on a chapter committee or the board of directors is a great way to network with other development professionals and hone your own leadership skills.
You, yes, you can be part of the excitement that is serving on the Fort Worth Metro AFP Board. Also, let us know of others you think would be good additions to the leadership team. If you have questions, we have great answers!
Please click on the following link for a quick Survey Monkey form to indicate your interest in board service.
