Boone Pickens Hospice & Palliative Care Center. As an AFP member since 1992, Milton has served in several leadership positions, including board member and president of the Greater Dallas Chapter and as a member of the AFP International Board of Directors. In 2014, the AFP Greater Dallas Chapter recognized Milton as its Outstanding Fundraising Executive. Online registration closes on August 19, 2015 at 10 PM. It's August. It's still summer, it's still hot, and our donors are still in Colorado or Maine or other places with cooler climates. But we are here in Dallas, planning our strategies for North Texas Giving Day, our upcoming special events and our end of year appeals.
Our August program is one that will inspire your efforts. On August 26th at Arlington Hall, Milton Key, Partner, Alexander Haas, Inc., will present the finding of the 2015 Giving USA Report on Philanthropy. If you haven't done so, make your reservations now. This will be an informative one for your executive director and/or board chair to attend.
The end of summer is a good time to look at our membership profile. The Greater Dallas Chapter AFP is a large chapter. This means we have 400+ members. In fact, at the end of July we have 417 members, which is a 13% increase over last year at this time. One factor that we can attribute this increase to is the change in membership levels. There are 6 different memberships for individuals: Professional, Young Professional, Retired, Associate, Collegiate, and Global e-membership. There are also 3 levels of memberships for businesses and/or nonprofit organizations.
Currently, the Dallas Chapter has 3 large nonprofit organizations as members: Children's Medical Center, North Texas Food Bank and The Salvation Army DFW. Kudos to these organizations for recognizing the professional development value for their fundraising staff. Do your organization a favor and recommend an organizational membership. It saves money for your organization, and more staff members can benefit from AFP.
If you are a fundraising professional under 35 years of age, then you need to be in contact with Tori Correll. She's our VP for Membership and is on a mission to increase our YP membership. Stay tuned for details of upcoming events or contact her directly at [email protected].
Here's a snapshot of our chapter membership: there is one male member to every 3 female members, the age of our membership ranges from 22 - 76 years, and 13% of our membership is CFRE accredited. Demographic information is self-reported to AFP International, so it's not possible to construct a detailed profile of the "average" AFP member unless you provide the information.
Lastly, here's a reminder that our acclaimed Fundamentals of Fundraising course is coming up October 8 - 9 at Dallas Baptist University. Early bird registration deadline is September 7th and scholarships are available. Click here for details.
I'll see you August 26th at our monthly meeting. Make sure you find me and say hi.
Sincerely,
Diana Marquis, CFRE
2015 Greater Dallas AFP President
