Community Partner in Action

Crossroads Grocery Outlet and their shoppers took part in the fifth annual Independence From Hunger Month in July. Stores and customers in six states stepped up to end hunger in their communities and helped raise nearly $500,000 to support local food assistance agencies like Bellevue LifeSpring.

Right here in Bellevue, you provided 62 bags of food! Thank you for your support of our community partners - and our community. Together we will achieve independence from hunger for children in Bellevue.

Grads On Track For Success

Failing a class is one of the top indicators for dropping out of school. However, most students living in poverty can't afford tuition to retrieve credit through summer school. Those who fall behind often stay behind.

Grads-On-Track awards scholarships to high school students in need to take summer classes and stay on the path to higher education and self-sufficiency.

"I was sick my freshman year and missed a lot of school. Once I was behind, it was hard to focus and understand the material and my grades dropped. I was overwhelmed with how hard it was to catch up. I hit rock bottom when I failed Geometry but it awoke my drive to succeed.

My teacher and school counselor helped me apply for Grads-On-Track. I attended summer school my junior year and in addition to earning back the credit, my overall GPA increased. As a result of all my hard work I graduated high school and was accepted to the University of Washington."

Luisa is one of 26 students pursuing higher education through a Bellevue LifeSpring college scholarship this year. Luisa will begin at UW Bothell this fall where she hopes to major in Microbiology and go on to become a pediatrician. Congratulations, Luisa!

This summer, 176 students received scholarships to retrieve credit and improve their grades in 302 summer courses. Your support is helping students like Luisa to retrieve credits, graduate on time and pursue higher education, breaking the cycle of poverty.

You're Helping End Hunger in Bellevue
In our June newsletter, we announced that your support had helped provide over 5,000 meals to hungry kids in Bellevue through your Adopt-A-Box donations.

In two short months, that number has increased to more than 6,000 meals for Bellevue kids and their families through Breaktime-Mealtime!

No child should go hungry.
