ROXBURY SCHOOLS IN THE NEWS
Broadway Bound Campers Hit the Stage for Seussical, Jr.

Roxbury Community School's Broadway Bound hit the stage on Thursday, July 28th for a summer performance of Seussical, Jr. With more than 50 students in the Broadway Bound and Behind the Curtain program, students delved into the theater world to learn dialogue, music, set design and more during this three and a half week program.

Thursday's evening performance was shared with more than 500 people including family and community members.

Roxbury Community School Gardening Club Flourishes

The Roxbury Community School's gardening club is growing all new green thumbs under Farmer Dan's supervision. Students in preschool through 4th grade had the opportunity to be a part of Kennedy School's Gardening Club where they met during the months of May, June, and July.

Students signed up to learn hands-on about flowers and plants while learning gardening basics, techniques, and practical skills for the spring and fall. Students this summer also enjoyed garden projects and crafts.

"Summer is a time to watch plants flourish, maintain crops, plant a second crop rotation, and harvest produce such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and more! The garden needs proper nourishment, water, and cultivating which is depending on the students who are active participants," explain program instructor, Daniel Colditz.

The Kennedy School Garden produces strawberries, beans, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, cabbage, and more. The garden also has its own herb and flower garden that needs tending throughout the season.

Wife Has Good Idea; Roxbury Patrolman Steps Up

Roxbury resident, Kimberly Valdes and her husband, Roxbury Police Patrolman Silvio Valdes stepped up to rebuild dilapidated steps leading from Righter Road to Roxbury High School.

Sometimes in life, the best "somebody" for a job is yourself. And when it comes to fixing things like broken steps, it helps if you're a somebody with a spouse who knows how to do that kind of thing. Two somebodies are better than one."

In that regard, Valdes was lucky: Before he became a cop, her husband was a stone mason.

Moms in Charge say "Roxbury Soccer Fun Day" No Place for Roxbury/Randolph Rivalry

Roxbury High School Boys Soccer Parents Association President Janine Sempiti knows all about the Roxbury/Randolph rivalry. But she and the four other women in the Association think world peace is a little more important than the local "my school's better than your school" tradition.

So in planning the upcoming First Annual Roxbury Soccer Fun Day event - a fundraiser for the soccer team - the Association decided to make a point: Instead of limiting attendance to Roxbury kids only, the Association is telling young soccer enthusiasts from Randolph - and anywhere else - they are welcome.

Roxbury's 9/11 Day of Service

Image Credit_ Google
Since 2010, residents of Roxbury Township have come together to honor the heroes of September 11, 2001 by giving back to their community.

We recall the selfless acts of police, firefighters, EMTs, and countless volunteers who offered themselves to care for their fellow citizens. We follow their example and remember those we lost by connecting with our neighbors to make our community a better place.

This annual community-wide event is a partnership between the Township of Roxbury, the Roxbury Clergy Council, and local businesses and organizations who participate in and sponsor the event.

This year's Day of Service will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2016.

Hip Hop Dance After School

Hip Hop is an eclectic street style of dance that is performed in running shoes to current upbeat tempos. The dynamic moves taught in Hip Hop class are fast, stylish, funky and similar to those seen in music videos.

This class is appropriate for high energy dancers that are driven by a beat. Similar to a Jazz class, Hip Hop is broken down into 3 parts - warm up, corner work/technique and choreography. Students in a Hip Hop class will work on their strength, flexibility, and musicality through intricate fun and fast paced funky choreography.

Since the tempos are usually quicker than any other dance form, the choreography in a Hip Hop class provides a great cardio workout and is also a fun way to exercise the mind and memory.
