GUEST HOUSE VOLUNTEERING

Every month, a local UU church provides a meal to over 100 homeless men at the Guest House, a shelter in downtown Milwaukee. UUCW takes its turn on Saturday, August 20th at 5:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to provide food or soda, serve, transport, and supervise. Children are generally welcome to help, but please consult with organizers before signing them up. If you are able to help, please sign up at the Social Action table after a Sunday service or contact Eileen Gleeson via the church office.

OUTREACH WORSHIP VISIT

The next visit is planned for Heritage Court-Memory Care (N48 W14250 Hampton Ave. in Menomonee Falls) on Saturday, August 13th at 10:00 a.m. Anyone who can bring a smile is invited to participate in this program for song, story, meditation, and sharing of joys and concerns. This is your chance to get a heart full of joy in return for an hour of your time. For more information, contact Ginny Scholtz via the church office.

REPORT FROM NICARAGUA VOLUNTEER TRIP

This year, church members went on two trips to Nicaragua to help build houses and community through the Bridges to Community program. Upon returning, one family published a report, complete with photo and video, about their experiences in Nicaragua. For more information about UUCW service trips, contact the church office .
AUGUST SPLIT THE PLATE: SOJOURNER FAMILY PEACE CENTER

The goals of Sojourner Family Peace Center are to ensure the safety of victims of family violence and provide a pathway out of violence for victims and abusers through opportunities to make positive and lasting changes for themselves and their children. It  is the largest nonprofit provider of domestic violence prevention and intervention services in Wisconsin, serving over 9,500 clients each year.  Each month, UUCW gives half of all undesignated offering monies to a non-profit organization as a way to help us live our Unitarian Universalist values and serve our community.  For more information about Split the Plate, contact the committee Chair, Phil Kroner, via the church office .
SUMMER FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS

The food drive in August will go to the  Hebron House of Hospitality. Based in Waukesha, Hebron House provides shelter and services to help individuals and families overcome their homelessness. Last year Hebron House served over 700 people, which included 294 children. The summer months are the busiest time of the year for Hebron House, since many families have greater financial strain due to child care and increased food needs. The food items most needed include: sugar, flour, cereal, granola bars, fruit snacks, trail mix, coffee, creamer, condiments of all types, and canned tuna and chicken. For more information, or to volunteer, contact Ellen Newbauer or Melanie Weston   via the church office .

ADDICTION RECOVERY MINISTRY SURVEY

Addiction wears many faces and many masks. Whether the substance is alcohol, drugs, gambling, or other addictive behaviors, the spiritual distress of addiction weighs on families and loved ones, as well as the individual suffering the problem.  The Lay Pastoral Care Team of UUCW is exploring ways to provide support to addicts and their loved ones. The need for Addiction Recovery Ministry is being recognized by several Unitarian Universalist congregations in the Midwest. The initial focus will be to connect anyone with addiction concerns with existing area resources . Support groups could be part of this ministry at some point in the future.  In order to gauge interest here at UUCW, you're invited to participate in a confidential online survey. For more information, contact the Lay Pastoral Care Team   via the church office
NEXT SUNDAY: "HOW TO BE A FABULOUS UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST IN FIVE EASY STEPS"

Sunday, August 21st, 2016
10:00 a.m.
Rev. Suzelle Lynch

As Unitarian Universalists, we don't promise to give people the right answers to life's big questions. We don't claim that we have the key to heaven's door, either. And we don't think our way of being religious is the only right way. What we DO have and what we CAN promise are pretty marvelous, though. Want to know how to be a fabulous UU? Join us today for Five Easy Steps from Rev. Suzelle.  Kaleidoscope, the UUCW Worship Band, provides music this morning.
UUCW LIBRARY CATALOG NOW ONLINE

Thanks to the work of dedicated volunteers, the UUCW Library Catalog is now online at LibraryThing.com. The online catalog is still a work in progress, but it is available for you to look at. You can browse the library's holdings or do a search for a specific title, author, or subject tag. You do not have to be a LibraryThing member to browse the catalog. To request contact, fill out the Lay Pastoral Care Referral Form in your order of service on Sunday and hand it to the ushers or directly to the pastor. You may also contact Rev.
