This fall we will once again enjoy a conversation with Flannery O'Connor. Over 10 weeks we will seek to understand her culture, faith and life with the help of Ralph C. Wood's exquisite book, Flannery O'Connor and the Christ-Haunted South.

ADULTS: Living in Community -
Rediscovering How to Be Christian Today; John Jenkins; The Berlin Room
Living in Community examines our lives as Christians in today's world, and asks how we might more intentionally behave as Christians in today's world. We will study some elements of the Rule of St. Benedict, using it as a guidebook to guide intentional Christian living in the waxing years of the twenty-first century. This is the same class as the senior youth, so this may be of special interest to their parents.

Living in Community; Ranie Neislar; Youth Room, Upper Level, Parish House
Saint Paul's upper school formation offering is rooted in the Living in Community curriculum. Using the lens of Benedictine practices, we will explore the foundational necessity of participating in faith-communities and consider what it means to live an authentic Christian life in our quickly changing multi-cultural world.

MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH:
Journey to Adulthood; Todd Shafer & Melissa Williams; EYC Christian Formation Room, Upper Level, Parish House
Our middle school youth and their adult leaders will walk together on the journey from childhood to adulthood as people of faith using the Journey to Adulthood curriculum. Through conversations that touch on four key areas of life-Self, Society, Sexuality, and Spirituality, our leaders will meet our young people where they are and model the care and community they need to develop their identity as modern Christians.

Our older children will immerse themselves in SPARK, a liturgically grounded
program that follows the lectionary of the church year, equipping them to more deeply
participate in our liturgical life through prayer, reflection, bible story discussion, and plenty of fun.

Summer Musicians This Sunday
Sunday morning's summer music is made possible by a gift in memory of
Mark Aldwin Yarbrough, MD, by his parents, Al and Laraine Yarbrough. Please welcome Melissa Schultz, Soprano. Melissa is an accomplished performer, equally comfortable in the concert hall, chamber choral groups and the operatic stage. Saint Paul's parishioners will recognize Melissa as the Director of the Saint Nicholas Choir and Musikgarten teacher.

HUMAN FOOSBALL EYC (Episcopal Youth Community - grades 6-12) Kick-off

PM
Join Saint Paul's Youth for our EYC Kick-off event of HUMAN FOOSBALL this Sunday evening from 5-6:30! We will begin the evening with a cook-out style picnic and move onto the main Foosball event. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Please wear closed-toe shoes. If you have never heard of "Human Foosball," this is the perfect opportunity to come see what it is all about. Youth leaders will be providing super-soaker cooling stations, so bring athletic clothes that are okay to get wet!

Craig-Houghton Elementary Wish-List
Craig-Houghton Elementary students returned to school this past week. We are excited to have the opportunity to begin a new year in partnership with them. Sunday morning we will bless the many backpacks given for our friends at the school.
We asked Craig-Houghton teachers and guidance counselor how we could help this this school year. We've included a "wish-list" of items for their classrooms.

Canterbury Choir Lock-In
Friday-Saturday, August 19-20
The Canterbury Choir (children in grades 3-9) kicks off its season with a Lock-In Friday night and Saturday morning, August 19-20. The singers will have a chance to reacquaint, enjoy trips to the 8th Street Fountain, the Saint Paul's Churchyard and Crypt, and get a head start on learning new music. Pizza, a movie, and a sleep-over in the Youth Room make this a fun event. Rehearsals begin the following Wednesday, August 24. For more information contact Keith Shafer.

Acolyte Festival ( Ages 8 and up)

The Saint Paul's Acolyte Festival will be held Sunday, August 21, 12-2
PM. Anyone ages 8 and up interested in becoming an acolyte and all current acolytes are invited and encouraged to attend. Lunch will be served in Tyler Hall with training following in the church. Participants are requested to register so that lunch can be planned.

Wednesday Night Fellowship Dinners return Wednesday, August 24. This month the Youth of Saint Paul's are hosting a special "Cooking for the Choirs" taco dinner night in honor of our choirs return to Wednesday practice. Join us from 6:00 - 7:0 0
PM in Tyler Hall. A donation of $5.00 a plate or $15.00 per family is greatly appreciated and will benefit events for our youth. Come out to support our youth, celebrate the choirs, and enjoy the rich fellowship of our Saint Paul's community. An RSVP is not necessary; however, if you plan to attend, please
