Bugle Calls
Issue No. 1014
July 2014
In February's edition of "Bugle Calls" we introduced or reacquainted readers  Bob Bugle-B-1001with Dr. Stephen Covey, author of a number of acclaimed books, including the international best seller, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People".

Our main topic for February's issue was, appropriately enough, Habit 1 "Be Proactive". "As human beings we are responsible for our own lives. Our behavior (and the consequences of that behavior)  is a function of our decisions, not our conditions."

May's edition of "Bugle Calls" focused on Habit 2 "Begin with the End in Mind". Understanding who we are and where we want to go is critical to our success, both personally and professionally.

July's edition of Bugle Calls will focus on Habit # 3, "Put First Things First". We'll review the Time Management Matrix including Quadrants 1 (Important and Urgent), 2 (Important but Not Urgent) , 3 ( Not Important but Urgent) and 4 (Not Important and Not Urgent), and how our ability to focus our time and energy in Quadrant 2 has a direct and lasting effect on both our professional and personal success and happiness.

As always, we welcome feedback from our readers including suggestions for future topics.  We hope you find value in receiving "Bugle Calls", and encourage you to forward a copy to a friend, acquaintance or business associate so they can benefit from the information as well.

"7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Dr. Stephen R. Covey
Analysis by Bob Bugle
Bob Bugle-B-1001 According to Dr. Covey, "Habits are powerful factors in our lives. Because they are consistent, often unconscious patterns, they constantly, daily, express our character and produce our effectiveness...or ineffectiveness."

Dr. Covey defines a habit as the intersection of knowledge (what to do), skill (how to do it) and desire (wanting to do it). Unless all three elements are involved, a good habit will never be formed.

Merely knowing what to do and having the will to do it produces ineffective results if we don't possess the skill set required to accomplish the task. Similarly, having the knowledge and skill but lacking the desire accomplishes nothing.

Deep Habits: The Importance of Planning Every Minute of Your Work Day
by: Tamara Myles
A few weeks ago, I was talking to my friend Anne about recent books we were reading. Anne told me that she had recently purchased a book that she is interested in, but doesn't have time to read. After we parted, I started thinking about what she said, which is like what I often hear from my clients: "I don't have time to pursue new leads," or "I don't have time to think strategically about my business.  "

Becoming more productive and ultimately leading a more fulfilling life is not an impossible skill, achievable only by few. Many of the techniques and steps involved are intuitive.

Feedback:
"Thanks for giving us an insight into where we are going and what we need to do to keep up with our very 'mobile' audiences while using simple language that we can all understand and absorb."
