Donor Generosity Continues to Benefit Agwata School

Outreach Uganda would like to give a huge shout out of THANKS for the many amazing donations we received for our preschool classes. Because of your generosity, students at the Agwata school continue to benefit from abundant opportunities to learn, grow, and excel.

It is clear that you understand the importance of supporting our students and see the value in providing items that bring them joy! But don't take our word for it; watch this video of our nursery class playing with their new toys.

Here is another glimpse into the day of our teachers and students: When the children were first given their new pencils, books and other

materials, they were wide-eyed and eager since they had only ever used stubby pencils and paper. The oldest class used paints for the first time and learned how to wash and clean their brushes. The teachers

were ecstatic, as well, to be able to provide a better learning

environment to these children and they anticipate the new building and materials will boost attendance. The district education inspector even commented that the school is now the best equipped in the district.

Your Bead Purchases Are Life Saving to Our Women

Our Ugandan paper beads make great gifts for the holidays. And besides that, they are also life changing for the women who make them. We work directly with over 200 women in Uganda. They are standing by ready to make lots of beads and jewelry items for our upcoming holiday season!

The beads make wonderful, low-cost gifts for teachers, friends, and neighbors. It helps our beaders feed their families, buy needed medicines, and send their children to school. On top of that, they are saving some of their bead earnings for down payment on homes which will be built as part of our home ownership program for our Jinja-based women.

Aber Lucy is one of our newer bead group members whose husband passed away in 2005. She says, "My life is now easy. I can buy food and pay school fees, and now I have someone to talk to [other group members] and I am so happy."

We sell beads online, at bead events in the metro Denver area, and at bead parties throughout the U.S. Can you help our women increase their earnings by hosting a bead party with your friends, selling beads at a Sunday at your church, through wholesalers, or at a bead event in your area?

When you visit a Ugandan home you will be invited to wash your hands so you can eat cleanly. Most Ugandans do not use forks or knives to eat. They believe the staples of their diet (like potatoes or rice to us) cannot be tasty when eaten with cutlery.

A young boy or girl will help you wash by pouring water out of a jug over your hands over a small basin.

For many foreigners it is difficult to learn eat with your hands; especially if soup is on the menu. You don't want the soup to run down your arm and soak your clothes. Let your host know that is it your first time eating with your hands and ask to be shown a trick or two.

Last, relax and enjoy the meal!
