CALLING TIME ON ROWDY PASSENGERS

The recent announcement that Jet2 is to ban alcohol sales on board all of its flights before 8:00am raises a number of questions - in relation to the sale of alcohol on board and also at the airport. I've often questioned the logic of not allowing any liquids more than 100ml to be taken through security, then being  able to purchase 1L of highly flammable spirits in a glass bottle airside, which can then be taken on board the aircraft.

But then that is probably a completely different issue; what we are talking about here is highly disruptive behaviour on board the aircraft by members of the public, where excess alcohol obviously plays a major role ... people getting 'out of their tree' and either being abusive or threatening to staff or other customers on board. We have read about so many instances of aircraft having to be diverted, so that they can offload an abusive or threatening passenger - it not only disrupts the travel plans of all the other passengers, it also costs the airline a fortune in compensation for delays, not to mention extra landing charges etc.

So the question is - will the banning of sales of alcohol on board the aircraft before 8:00am have the desired effect in eliminating this disruptive behaviour? In my opinion, as a standalone measure... click to read on!
