You're Invited to a
Walk on the Sunny Side
Sunday, August 28th, 3-5 pm
Meet 3pm at Jackson Middle School
Arnold Creek Neighborhood Association (ACNA) invites you to another neighborhood walk like the one we sponsored in July. That one started out at Stephenson School. This time we will meet on the opposite side of the Arnold Creek canyon and we will explore the south facing slope along Maricara and Dickinson and other delightful streets as well as taking a shady woodland trail through Maricara Park.
The focus of this walk will be on connectivity and transportation issues and we will see examples of a public pedestrian easement and some demand (unofficial) pedestrian cut throughs, some fully developed streets with sidewalks and street trees, and some older unimproved streets some of which have no sidewalks and are narrow with few parking spaces.
We have permission to cut through the large private property south of Maricara Park where an eighteen lot subdivision is currently being planned. The City would like to see a street connection between 25th and the stub of 26th Ave. in the Arnold Woods subdivision. This proposed development will likely be on the agenda in future ACNA meetings and so this is a good opportunity for a first look.
We will pass by some very nice gardens and we will see some architecturally interesting houses and a humongous blackberry patch, and in addition we will get to appreciate the results of Portland Parks and Recreation's re-design of the trail system in Maricara Park and the outstanding work that has been done by volunteers to remove invasives making this park one of the most pristine natural areas in our city.
Please meet up at Jackson School opposite Maricara st. near the crosswalk on 35th. at three o'clock. This walk would take about an hour if you did it by yourself or with a walking buddy, but since there will be a group and some yakking going on, we estimate the walk will take about two hours. There is hardly any elevation change but there are a couple of short steep scrambles.
This is a sneakers on the ground opportunity to get up to speed
on ACNA transportation issues!
Everyone is invited!
Remember to dress for the weather.
