Dog Days Of Summer!

Ah, the "Dog Days of Summer" are here.
Hot days, lazy dogs and cloudless skies tend to be typical descriptors here in northern Nevada.
For everyone who has used or at least heard this phrase,  here is a little background obtained from Wilstar.com and National Geographic's Becky Little.

The ancient Greeks saw the constellation Canis Major as a dog chasing Lepus, the hare.  The star Sirius is the dog's nose.
In the summer, Sirius, the "dog star," rises and sets with the sun. During late July Sirius is in conjunction with the sun, and the ancients believed that its heat added to the heat of the sun, creating a stretch of hot and sultry weather. They named this period of time, from 20 days before the conjunction to 20 days after, "dog days" after the dog star.

From the beautiful skies to present day Nevada turf, dogs are still following their noses, chasing hares, rabbits, and just about anything that smells  remotely  interesting.
We owners just enjoy our canine friends' bliss.

It's delightful that the final stretch of Carson City's new animal shelter is in conjunction with the dog days.
The dog star Sirius is a perfect backdrop to the amazing construction progress and the new opportunities that the new shelter will bring.  All pets need loving homes, and a safe, inviting shelter helps to make this happen.   Thank you for being a part of this journey.  Now, stay cool.

Another Great Bark, Whine and Dine!

Balloons popping, kids smiling, folks eating delicious BBQ by Carson City BBQ, and everyone coming together to help CASI in our efforts to get a shelter  play-yard designed and fenced!  Oh yes, to also raise money for spay and neuter programs for pets that otherwise would keep having kittens and pups that no one wants.  And wait, to also help CASI continue to equip the new shelter because we need to do this right.

People enjoyed bidding on the great silent auction items, beautifully designed by Cecile Critchfield.  We listened to background music provided by Cowboy Bob Truesdale.

Most importantly, we talked about CASI's programs and celebrated the power and generosity of our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us!

A special acknowledgement goes to Patti Stewart, for chairing this big undertaking.  So much work takes place behind the scenes!  To Sandy Osheroff, thank you for keeping ticket sales organized.
Thank you, Kathleen Stemler for allowing us to use your beautiful artwork for our fliers.
To ALL the CASI volunteers who helped set up, clean up, and work this event, your help is so appreciated.
Finally to everyone who donated auction items, please know your generosity is making life easier for homeless pets.

Thank You Eagle Valley Women's Golf Club!
Friends, sunshine, golfing and helping shelter pets...what could be better!
CASI would like to thank the Eagle Valley Women's Golf Club for inviting us to set up a "Closest to the Pin" booth at hole 4 of their Wild Wild West golf Tournament held July 20th.  In addition to the proceeds from donations, EVWGC shared half of their raffle prize proceeds to CASI!
All totaled, this wonderful group of women donated $810.00 to help CASI build and equip the shelter play yard and provide other lifesaving
and life changing services to pets in need.

Actually, we wish it were such a fun story, but in reality these old sweeties have found themselves at the shelter for reasons out of their control.  Please help us find them a loving home.

Carson City will soon have a new shelter!

"Never say that you can't do something, or that something seems impossible, or that something can't be done, no matter how discouraging or harrowing it may be;  human beings are limited only by what we allow ourselves to be limited by: our own minds.  We are each the masters of our own reality.
When we become self-aware to this,
absolutely anything in the world is possible."
