New in 2016-17

Here is what's new this year at MMA...

New Leadership:
COL Rick Grabowski, USMC (Ret.) has joined the staff as the Adjutant. He will oversee Cadet Life, the Commandant's Office, the Clinic, and transportation activities. COL Grabowski has already demonstrated his commitment to cadets - you'll see him on campus at all times of the day, whether working out with recruits, dropping by dinner mess or attending Vespers. COL Grabowski retired from the U.S. Marines as the deputy director of the Marines Corps Reporting Depot - Parris Island and brings a great deal of enthusiasm to his new role!

Edsel Baker, previously the Associate Dean, has stepped in as Interim Dean this year since Dr. Frank Giuseffi announced that he would pursue new ventures this July. Baker has a Master of Divinity from Duke University and a Master of Science in Applied Probability and Statistics. Prior to his time at MMA, Baker had professional managerial experience working for a Fortune 500 company and taught statistics at the college level.

A national search is underway for a new dean of academics - the position will be filled during the 2017-18 school year.

New Teachers:
Four new faculty members have joined MMA this fall - Juan Garcia is the new Spanish teacher, and comes to MMA from Memphis, Tennessee. Russell Miller, the new ESL department head, comes to MMA from Amarillo, TX, with experience as an ESL &  International Student Coordinator  as well as an assistant principal. He  has a Bachelor's degree in Education  from West Texas A&M and a Master's  in Education Administration from  Wayland Baptist University. Miller  also has experience coaching soccer  and wrestling. CPT Joe Elliott is the new Senior Army Instructor and comes to MMA from the JROTC program in Pinon, Arizona. Rob McGrath is officially the new music instructor and choir director, having joined the staff in April 2016. McGrath is a professional musician with decades of experience as a Royal Marines bandmaster, music instructor, and performer.

New Programs:
College Triumph (Dual Credit)
MMA has partnered with Westminster College to introduce the College Triumph program, which is a dual enrollment program. Qualified cadets can take courses at a special rate and earn college credits while at MMA. More information can be found on the MMA website:

Middle School Music
All middle school students will be taught to play an instrument this year, specifically, the violin! MMA music instructors Rob McGrath and Freddie Lomas unpacked the new instruments this week and distributed them to our future violinists. (Rumor also has it that COL Grabowski is a violinist, as well!)
