An Electronic Newsletter by the Community of Christ known as Joy Lutheran Church

Our Mission Statement

We of Joy Lutheran Church foster
grace-filled relationships with Christ
through worship, fellowship, and service.

Invited and inviting - that is the nature of the church.  By God's grace in holy baptism we have a place at the banquet table of the Lord.  When, by the power of that same Spirit, humility and mutual love continue among us, the church can be more inviting still.

Special Request for Assistance
Pastor Martin is working with a new arrival in the community.  The gentleman requested assistance with some items for his son.  The boy does not have adequate clothing to start the school year, so we're requesting some special help.  He will be entering the second grade.

Boys size 7-8
2-4 shirts
underwear/socks
2-4 pants
winter coat
fall coat

tennis shoes, boys size 13
winter boots, boys size 13

Please contact the office if you can help so we don't double up on items, 694-9601 or [email protected].  Thanks!

Confirmation Instruction!
It's that time of year again!  Our Middle School folks engage in a two-year process of fellowship, service, and instruction - all to help us understand what it mean to be a Christian in our world today.  We study the basics of the Bible and the Christian Faith (using Martin Luther's Small Catechism, or Instruction book).  We also have some fun together as well as finding service opportunities that help us live out our faith in Christ.

We will be beginning Confirmation soon (In September).  If you are a Middle School human being (generally, 7th through 8th grade), please let Pastor Martin know (223-0519 or [email protected]).

Joy of Reading Book Club

The next Joy of Reading Book Club will be Monday September 19th.  The book for September is When the Moon Is Low by Nadia Hashimi.  Our meeting will be at the home of Mona Mitton and will start at 6:30 pm.

October's book is Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom which was recommended to us by Pastor Joe Alutius.

Want to join us?  We would love to have you!

Yes!  It is October 9th after service.
What's happening?  Music, Food and a Silent Auction!

Music - We have Steve and Deb Oudean providing folk gospel music to begin this festive event.

Food - Our own resident chef, Kathie Adams, will be cooking up some quiches for us, to be accompanied by potluck side dishes.  There will be a free-will offering for our brunch.

Silent Auction - Our congregation has been very creative and generous in providing hand-crafted items, baskets of goodies, & fun and highly prized items for our Silent Auction.  It is a social and enjoyable way to come together to raise funds.  We are hoping to raise $6,000 from this event.  The proceeds will go to supporting another Intern Pastor in 2017.
