The United Way kicks off their annual campaign at the Tuesday, September 13th Chamber After Hours Mixer.  The staff of the United Way has a fun, educational and entertaining evening planned from 5- 7pm at the Avera Pavilion and everyone is encouraged to attend. Bring a friend!

DOT plan to update and revitalize the state's interstate rest areas
The South Dakota Department of Transportation and Department of Tourism are seeking public comments on a proposed plan to update and revitalize the state's interstate rest areas.
 
"The rest areas at our borders are likely to be the first impression a traveler has of South Dakota," says Jim Hagen, secretary of Tourism. "I appreciate the time and effort the task force spent visiting each rest area to come up with a plan to better serve our citizens and visitors at these locations."
 
Currently, there are 21 rest areas located along interstates 29 and 90 in South Dakota, with 13 currently functioning as staffed information centers during the summer months.  Click here for full article

Yankton Chamber to Host South Dakota's Department
of Tourism Advisory Board and Staff

September 13 & 14 the Governors Tourism Advisory Board and Tourism staff will be in Yankton for their fall board meeting.
 
The advisory board consists of the visitor industry members across the state.  While in Yankton they will be touring the MEAD Building, Lewis & Clark Recreation Area, the Downtown Yankton/Meridian Bridge, the NFAA and experience a tour on the Missouri River.
 
Thank you to the Best Western Kelly Inn, The Landing, Riverfront Event Center/Brewery, NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Complex and HyVee for helping us host this group and rolling out the red carpet.

Homecoming Parade Set for September 23
Show your support and spirit for the Yankton Bucks!!  Enter your business in the Homecoming Parade slated for Friday, September 23 beginning at 2:30 p.m.  Advanced registration is required and the deadline is September 9th - there is a $20 entry fee and participants must sign a waiver to participate.

Yankton Manufacturing Week
October 3 - 7
Plans are underway for the 3rd Annual Yankton Manufacturing Week.  Manufacturing is Yankton's #2 industry and to help raise awareness the Yankton Chamber of Commerce Manufacturing Task Force has a week-long list of activities planned.

Community Kickoff & Product Showcase
Monday, Oct. 3rd 
Area manufacturers are encouraged to showcase their products in the parking lot and inside the mall. There will be a CEO discussion and social as well as a community open house at the Yankton Mall.
Tuesday, Oct. 4 - School Tours
Area school kids will be touring numerous manufacturing facilities to learn about careers in manufacturing.
Wednesday, Oct. 5 - Open Houses
Yankton School District will have their Career and Technical Education (CTE) Open House and RTEC will be showcasing new equipment.
Thursday, Oct. 6 - Public Tours

Friday, Oct. 7 - Public Tours and Employee Olympics
Public Tours will take place in the morning and the Manufacturing Olympics will take place at Riverside Park.  The public is invited.
