On January 29 at 7:30 in the TBC old sanctuary, Judson Scruton will present: Shakespeare's Shylock: A Venetian Jew In Queen Elizabeth's England.  Anti-semitism was a reality of life in England since The Edict of Expulsion in 1290.  Elizabethan England and the cultural scene including Shakespeare's play, The Merchant of Venice, assumed many anti-Jewish stereotypes, but Shakespeare's play and his powerful character Shylock are far more complicated than these stereotypes. This presentation will explore the social/political/personal contexts for understanding Shakespeare's Shylock.

L'Taken Participant Lee Winters Reflects on Gun Violence Losses

From Lee Winters: "The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism was gracious enough to post about The Protecting Domestic Violence and Stalking Victims Act (S. 1290), something I care about dearly. They mentioned me in their article, and how I, along with the confirmation class of Temple B'nai Chaim, went to the L'taken Social Justice Seminar to lobby to our senators and congressman. Please take a look at the article and take action!"
