Jim Reed was sworn in on May 16, 2016 as HUD's New England Regional Administrator.  As Regional Administrator Reed will serve as HUD's chief liaison to state and local elected officials, congressional delegations, and other stakeholders throughout New England.  He will work closely with senior officials of other federal agencies to effectively leverage resources and implement Administration-wide initiatives.  He will also coordinate the delivery of HUD programmatic and financial support in housing, community and economic development to 265 housing authorities, 10 federally recognized tribes, 84 state, county and local governments and more than 600 projects serving the homeless in the region.

Prior to joining HUD, Reed served for more than a decade as Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Newport, Rhode Island where he managed the federally funded transformation of nearly 500 severely distressed public housing units and substantially reduced the housing authority's persistently high vacancy rate.  In addition, Reed's management of the city's public housing developments led to a dramatic drop in crime, earning the housing authority HUD's designation as a "high performer."

Reed also served as a senior administrator at the Boston Housing Authority where he managed 2,579 public housing units in nine developments, two elderly housing developments and 141 scattered site properties.
