Service Opportunity: Glean Produce from
Farm Fields for Area Food Pantries
Sunday, September 11, following Parish Picnic: 12:30-4PM
Gleaning involves harvesting vegetables that otherwise would be left in the field, for distribution to those in need. We'll partner with the Liberty Prairie Foundation in Grayslake to harvest from the fields of a local, organic farm. Learn more about the program here. http://libertyprairie.org/calendar/gleaning/
After a hearty lunch at the Welcome Back Picnic, we'll leave from the church at 12:30 and carpool to Grayslake. We'll harves
t for a couple of hours, take a tour of the farm, and return to Winnetka by 4PM.
All ages are welcome to participate; children must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult. Dress for the weather and the dirt! Wear close-toed shoes. Bring water, sunscreen, and gardening gloves as needed. Harvest tools and bins will be provided. To RSVP for the event, or with any questions, Email Nadia.

Church School Tour: You're Invited!
In preparation for the beginning of the Church School year, families new to Christ Church, as well as those whose children are transitioning from one Church School area to another, are invited to meet at Church on the Hill (our building at Humboldt and Sheridan) this Sunday, Aug. 28 at 11:30 for a leisurely tour of the Church School rooms, starting with the Nursery and going all the way through Recognize, our 7th-12th grade room.
This tour will let families familiarize themselves with locations and spaces, and meet other Church School families, before our first day back on Sept. 11. Tour will start at the lower level Humboldt Avenue door at 11:30.

Feed My Starving Children ~Turn Hunger into Hope with Your Own Two Hands~
Saturday, September 10, from 9AM to 11AM, Christ Church will travel to Libertyville, Illinois to help Feed My Starving Children. We have decided to carpool instead of spending the money on tour buses. We will gather in the parking lot of Christ Church behind the 470 Maple Street address at 7:45AM. We will leave promptly at 8AM. We will return at noon. We committed to bring 80 people. Please email
Phil Krone to sign up to pack.
More importantly for us, they accept volunteers as young as 5 when accompanied by an adult. This means that for families with small children, this can be an event that everyone can participate in together.

We Need You - A Just Harvest Tues., 9/13 and Sat., 9/24
Christ Church provides a meal twice a month to A Just Harvest and volunteering is as simple as...
- Cooking a pan of chili or spaghetti (recipes are on the church's website). We cook chili for the 2nd Tuesday's meal and spaghetti for the 4th Saturday's meal every month. Large aluminum pans are available in the Parish House office. Recipes
- Buying 6 gallons of milk - any variety.
- Buying salad fixings (6 heads of iceberg or 3 large bags of lettuce) and ranch dressing (4x-large or 5 large bottles).
- Buying fruit (75 pieces if there are two people buying fruit. All fruit is ok, but please limit apples since the guests may have difficulty with their dental status).
We encourage all parishioners - young and old - to get involved in this worthwhile and meaningful outreach. If you have any questions please contact Suzie Peregrine or Jenny Smith.

News from Grace House
It has been an exciting and eventful week at Grace House!
Our New Nutritional Mentor
On Tuesday, August 16 the residents met with Anne Milling, a dietician and nutritionist who presented the "plate model" - an easy to follow method of healthy and nutritional eating. The "plate model" has been widely promoted by Michelle Obama.
Anne (a Winnetka resident) did an interactive session and the ladies were very proactive and eager to set individual goals. Anne will be going back to meet with everyone and help them on the road to success. Cooking classes to aid in healthy meal preparation are also being planned. A huge thank you to Anne for her generosity and time.
Annual Back to School Picnic
Sunday, August 20 the Grace House Back to School Picnic got underway. The morning
looked gray and there was a hint of rain, but by noon the sun was out and the party was launched.
Christ Church donated
46 back packs loaded with school supplies for ages K - through high school, helping children with supplies they might not otherwise have. There were big smiles all around - the residents are very proud of this event as it gives them a way to connect with their children and grandchildren. It is a joy to be with them, to meet their children and to share in this re-connection.
Residents fired up the grill and there was a bounty of delicious food (baskets of cherry tomatoes harvested from the garden that the residents planted on Planting Day were proudly served). The Jesse White Tumblers were the big attraction and a thrill for the children.
Thanks to Rummage for donating backpacks and to our parishioners who donated funds and school supplies to make this event special.
