Old Donation Episcopal Church

August 28, 2016
Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Weekly Chimes

Dear Old Donation family,

Seems way too early.  I am already seeing pictures of school starting!  Many of our grads have headed to begin college.  Some of the private schools began. And pre-season football games are on TV every night. On the positive side though, Church at 10:30 was almost full last Sunday, getting back into the regular patterns.

If you look "up" while walking the church grounds, you'll see the first visible sign of our progress. The south end of the education wing now has a beautiful 'pitched roof' replacing the 50 year old flat roof that leaked at almost every storm. Inside, the "Day School / Sunday School" space is even better with a very thorough redo. Like all older buildings, we had unhappy surprises that have resulted in some scrambles and 'best fixes' but it is 100% better and will serve us well. If you see Scott Crumley around, give him your thanks and a pat on the back!

We had a couple of sad news items this week. John Jarvis, who was one of our oldest members, having hit 100 this year, died and will be buried this weekend. This is Carol Jarvis' father-in-law, who lived at Baylake Retirement Home. Also, Jane Lane's son, Chuck, died in Staunton last week. Chuck grew up in the parish and was an acolyte and very active before he went off to UVA. Please keep Carol and John Jarvis, and Jane Lane in your prayers.

This Sunday, I'll be in the Gathering and Mother Ashley is back from her vacation, so she'll be in the Church. It is also the last Sunday for Sundays@5 so let's come out and give great thanks to God for wonderful worship.  We've averaged about 40 per Sunday in that 'extra' summer worship service.

Shalom!
