40+ Year Run of "NEW TIMES" Magazine in English

Over 1,800 separate and unbound issues

1945 - 1988

SUMMER, 2014

The journal New Times was exported from the USSR as the main purveyor of Soviet foreign policy, containing comprehensive articles on politics, economics and related subjects.

The periodical began as a Russian language semi-monthly publication under the title Война и рабочий класс from 1943-44. The journal then commenced in English in 1945 as War and the Working Class for the first 10 issues, changing its name to New Times for the remainder of 1945 through its end in 1988.

New Times was published semi-monthly from 1945-1946 and then weekly for the next 40+ years.

This run includes over 1,800 separate and unbound English language issues constituting over 90% of this publication from 1945 through 1983, with a smaller representation over the few following years through its end. Included with the magazines are numerous supplements containing foreign policy documents as well as the positions of the Soviet government on significant issues of the time, i.e., speeches and reports of various summit meetings.

The last several decades of the journal had illustrated covers as well as full-page advertisements of Soviet industrial, consumer, atomic, shipping and travel industries aimed largely at the Third World.

This group is a detailed window into the USSR and its official posture on world affairs during the period of the Cold War. Contact us for further information.
