FOR SALE: 40 YEAR RUN OF "SOVIET WOMAN" MAGAZINE

"Soviet Woman" was a contemporary lifestyle and cultural magazine published from 1945 through 1992. The journal was produced by the Committee of Soviet Women and All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions, printed in twelve languages and distributed in the USSR and exported worldwide. Despite being advertised with other Soviet publications of the period that were intended for foreign consumption, Soviet Woman is scarce.

"Soviet Woman" promoted an idealized vision of the modern woman and her family in the USSR. The journal expresses this vision with photography, poetry and feature articles, whose subjects are celebrities and everyday life. The issues contain articles about current events, knitting, cooking, fashion, and include many fold-out clothing pattern inserts.

Offered here is an English language run of Soviet Woman from 1945-1985 totaling approximately 350 issues. The group includes an issue designed by Varvara Stepanova, an early contributor to the journal. Both front and back covers have full-page photos. The collection consists of separate, unbound issues.
