A Message from Executive Director William Salcedo
|
Dear Friends,
I hope you are enjoying the summer! While this is the time for relaxing and vacations, children can get off track without school to provide structure in their day. Our 1:1 mentoring helps by providing positive reinforcement on a regular basis in the summer and throughout the year.
Our agency also provides wraparound services to Littles and their families in an effort to support and strengthen them. A perfect example is our Kids Club activities such as the Color Games highlighted this month, and others including our Back to School parties, Holiday Adopt a Family, and Spring Fun Day.
We partner with many people and businesses in the community to provide opportunities such as donated sneakers, sporting event tickets, fitness activities, fishing trips, or the Job Readiness event at Old Navy.
BBBSMMC Case Managers work with parents, guardians, and Bigs on any issues and concerns to get the children and families the help they need. BBBSMMC staff facilitates summer camp opportunities for Littles, writing and photography programs, tutoring, and more.
Our holistic method of support shows each child that they not only have a Big Brother or Big Sister that cares about their well-being, but that our staff and others in the community care as well.
Thank you for being part of that community!
William Salcedo
Executive Director

Rutgers Color Games Participants
|
|
BBBSMMC partnered with Rutgers Athletics to host the 2nd Annual Rutgers Color Games event. Student athletes from Rutgers University facilitated an array of games such as soccer and Family Feud. Thirty-four Big and Little matches from all over New Jersey attended and had a great time competing in the games. Afterward, all of the participants enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by the Athletics Department. Thank you so much to Shawn and Candice from Rutgers for putting together this great event and to all of the athletes who spent the day with us!

"I am humbled by the growth of this event over the years. What started out as a small group of friends looking to have some fun and make a contribution has turned into a key event for our agency," he said.

Job Readiness Day at Old Navy

Job Readiness Interns for the Day! |
|
Our teenaged Littles started their Job Readiness Day at Old Navy in the Brunswick Square Mall by receiving their official training name tags followed by a welcome video giving them a background on the company. After a quick tour of the stockroom and sales floor, they jumped into learning the ropes of retail. The Littles learned how to use the register and rang up sales, dressed a mannequin, and processed new shipments, all with the help of team members.

A Little Life is Waiting for a Big Change
Isaiah is entering 6th grade and had an enjoyable summer in camp. He likes basketball, soccer, football, video games, and Legos. He also enjoys reading funny books, such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Isaiah is very friendly and polite, and likes to be around people. Some things he would like to do with a Big Brother include playing football, soccer, and basketball, and he hopes that his Big Brother will be
"resourceful."
