Rio Olympics 2016
The 2016 Rio Olympics have come to an end and the Summer Games enter a four-year hibernation before heading to Tokyo in 2020. Even if you watched the Games, here's some strange details that you may have missed.

1.  Pro swimmers need life guards, too Brazilian law insists that swimming pools over a certain size are watched by life guards. There's about 75 life guards on duty at the various Olympic centers during the water events. There's not much for them to do and onlookers have commented on how bored they look, but they get some of the best seats in the house and they get paid $341 to sit there.

2.   Olympic glory comes at a cost.   The US Olympic Committee awards prize money to medal winners: $25,000 for gold, $15,000 for silver and $10,000 for bronze - and this is considered taxable income by the US Internal Revenue Service. That means Michael Phelps' five gold medals from Rio, plus his silver, could cost him up to $55,000 in taxes. Mo' money, mo' problems.

3. Mysterious squiggly trophies. At previous Olympics, athletes who made the podium were handed a bouquet of flowers. This year that all changed, due to the fact that flowers are "not very sustainable." Instead, along with their medal, competitors were handed a multicolored object with a green base. Was it a paperweight? A statue? It baffled spectators and competitors alike, check it out.

4. Boring leotards are a thing of the past. Simple lycra is just not enough anymore. At Rio, many of the women gymnasts' leotards were adorned with nearly 5,000 Swarovski crystals. Ya know, "look good, feel good, do good." The cost of the dazzling Team USA outfits? About $1,200 each.

5. Need to know the highlights and lowlights from Rio? Check out these memorable Olympic moments.

You won't regret the investment in the local community--and seeing your good deeds in action is definitely worth it!
SAYS of St. Augustine Helps Kids!

The home is about 45 minutes away from the Annual Conference hotel. It is a small campus specifically for boys ages 6-18 who are not in foster care. These boys have endured all forms of abuse. SAYS is a safe haven where they live, some until they reach age 18. The staff provide psychological assistance, as well as life readiness skills. SAYS has 2 main needs at this time. 1) re-decorating 6 of the bedrooms; and 2) cleaning up the outside garden areas.
