September in Truro ...
The last month of summer, but for many the best ... turning left on Rt 6 or going to the PO is no longer a harrowing experience.
Although we lose almost 3 minutes of sunlight per day, our warm surrounding waters keep our average air temperatures up.
According to past records, we expect average lows of 55°F and highs of 70°F. Great weather for plant growth! We traditionally get a total of 2.8 inches of rain which is about the same as August.
Below are some of the activities and events happening about town this month.
Truro Ag Fair
The Truro Agricultural Fair, September 4, is seeking volunteers and contestants. All kinds of people work together to create the fair and have fun doing so enjoying the food, the live music, the games, and the knowledge that they are building community and supporting sustainable agriculture and education. * Enter your favorite animal in the Barnyard Beauty Contest. * Let your proud produce go for the gold in the Harvest Contest as the Heaviest Tomato, Biggest Squash, Tallest Sunflower, Best-Looking Dozen (eggs), and Most Interesting Varietal or Most Beautiful Bouquet. * Or bake a tasty pie for the Pie Contest and Bake Sale.
There are volunteer opportunities in all areas at the fair. The shifts are two hours; the memories are forever. Location: 8 Truro Center Road. For more information and to register to volunteer, go to our website at TruroAgFair.com to register for contests or to find out more about volunteering.

Cultural Council Grants Available
The Truro Cultural Council is announcing its 2017 application deadline and is announcing a very important change in the application process.
Please review the information at www.mass-culture.org for applications, procedures and guidelines. The deadline for completed applications is October 17, 2016. Please be aware that ALL applications now must be completed on-line, and paper copies will not be accepted. All information and applications are available at the noted web address, above.
If you have a cultural project you would like to share with the community and with which you may need financial assistance, please feel free to apply for a grant! The Truro Cultural Council's approval priority for an application leans toward projects that promote tourism in Truro; provide education, information, and entertainment to the Truro Community through the arts, sciences and humanities; or such projects with merit that are collaborative and include Cape Cod as a whole. Applications for projects simply requesting salaries and those not benefiting Truro residents and visitors directly will be scrutinized highly.
   Good luck to all applicants!
Truroite News
Jay Norton, who has served Truro as its Director of DPW since Paul Morris' retirement in 2014, has submitted his resignation.
During Jay's tenure Truro has experienced one of its most challenging winters (2014-2015) in terms of snowfall with its related issues for residents, as well as serious storm-related coastal overwashes at Ballston Beach. Jay has demonstrated dependability, respect, and positive contributions to integration of services for safety and maintenance on streets, in Town buildings, and at public facilities. We wish him the best of luck with unlimited success in his new endeavors. Thank you, Jay. You shall be missed.
