Registration
We have developed a schedule of programs for people of all ages to enjoy what our parks have to offer while enjoying the benefits of being outdoors. Most programs are FREE, unless otherwise noted and require advance registration to ensure we meet required minimums. Register early to avoid program cancellation!

The Clark County Park District also offers scheduled programs for school groups, senior centers and other organizations.  Call the Park Headquarters at 937-882-6000 for more information.

CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS
 
Homeschool History Programs - Ages 6-12
Experience living and natural history in a hands-on way, designed for homeschoolers.
Participants must wear closed-toe shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.
Pre-registration is required and is limited to 15 participants.
  • Archaeology: Discovering our Buried Past, Thursday, September 22, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Davidson Interpretive Center, Lance Greene, Professor of Anthropology, Wright State University
    Participate in an excavation, identify artifacts, and find out how archaeologists learn about people from the past.
  • Say It in Shawnee, Wednesday, October 19, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m., Indian Village, George Rogers Clark Park, Samantha Holland, Author
    Learn some of the Shawnee language while participating in hands-on activities.
  • Recollections of a Civil War Soldier, Wednesday, November 23, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m., Davidson Interpretive Center, Ski Schanher, Historian
    Discover the life of a Civil War soldier, from the beginning of the war to the end.

Wetland Warriors - Ages 7-12
This year-round program encourages children to get outside, make new discoveries and foster friendships while learning about nature firsthand. Participants will be nature investigators, exploring mysteries in nature through hands-on activities outdoors. Dress in weather-appropriate gear and footwear. In case of inclement weather, we will move indoors to the Davidson Interpretive Center. Pre-registration is required. There is a limit of 15 participants.
  • Investigation: Migration, Thursday, September 15, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Leadingham Prairie
    Discover different types of species that head south for the winter and other creatures that migrate. How do they survive their long journey? Go on a search
    for these creatures.
  • Investigation: What's on the Forest Floor? Thursday, October 20, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. , George Rogers Clark Park
    Search through the leaf litter, look under logs and search for what lives there. Go on a scavenger hunt for the tiny creatures of the forest.
  • Investigation: Nature vs. Old Man Winter, Thursday, November 17, 4:00 - 6:00 p,m., Estel Wenrick Wetlands
    What if you are a creature getting ready for Ohio's cold, snowy weather? How will you make it? Join us for some activities on how critters prepare for and survive in the winter.

Fireside History Chats - All Ages , 7:00 PM

Join us each month for an entertaining program to learn about the history of this area. Pre-registration is required and registration is limited to 40.
  • Through Shawnee Eyes, Tuesday, October 11, 2016, Samantha Holland, Author
    Gain a better understanding of the life of a Shawnee Indian in Ohio. Understanding the Shawnee language gives us a better understanding of how the Shawnee Indians interpreted their world. Learn how they planted, prepared and stored their foods, a brief understanding of their religion and a brief synopsis of their history.
  • Life of a Civil War Soldier, Wednesday, November 9, 2016, Dr. Ski Schanher, Historian
    Dr. Schanher will give us a glimpse into the life of a soldier, adapted from his booklet, "A Soldier's Story."  Learn of the life of a Civil War soldier from the beginning of the war to the end, from reasons for enlistment to reasons of wishing the war were over.

Clark Park Hikers, Every Thursday Morning, 9:00 a.m.
George Rogers Clark Park, Meet at lower parking lot
Join Park District Volunteers each Thursday morning to enjoy a walk through the woods at George Rogers Clark Park. This group has been exploring the park weekly for over 10 years, yet each week brings a new discovery! Meet at the parking lot below the dam and experience the beauty and camaraderie found in the outdoors.

Stargaze, Davidson Interpretive Center
  • Friday, September 23: 9:00 - 11:00 p.m.
  • Friday, November 18: 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. - Leonids meteor shower
Sit under the stars and explore the mysteries of the night sky. Enjoy spectacular views with
a 14" telescope and even view the rings of Saturn. Bring something to sit on and a flash-light. Feel free to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy during the program.


BioBlitz, Friday, September 30 - Saturday, October 1, 2:00 p.m.
George Rogers Clark Park, Demint Shelter , Starts at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and goes till 2:00 p.m. on Saturday
The Park District is teaming up with Wittenberg's Biology students to conduct a 24- hour count on as many species as possible throughout our parks! Activities for the kids and the public is invited to participate in some of the counts. Watch our Facebook page for updates. There will be particular times and locations listed for the counts as we get closer. 

Fall Discovery Hike, Saturday, October 29, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
George Rogers Clark Park, Meet at Hosterman Lake
Take a "scavenger hunt" and search for the creatures that live under the leaves on the
forest floor, under logs, and in the trees. Please dress appropriately for walking outdoors.

Campfire Night, Friday, November 4, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
George Rogers Clark Park, A-Frame Shelter at Lake
Join us for an evening of sitting by the fire, listening to the night sounds and learning about nocturnal animals. Then, enjoy some s'mores by the fire. This is a joint program of the Clark County Park District and National Trail Parks and Recreation District.

Tickets at the gate are $10 for adults, $7 for active-duty military personnel

Mark your calendars for the annual Fair at New Boston! Step back in time to enjoy historic food, shop at local merchants, and meet various historic characters. Roam the streets of New Boston in the country's most authentic 18th-century market fair and see the works of renowned historic artisans. Tickets are available at most branches of Security National Bank. This program is provided by the George Rogers Clark Heritage Association. Tour the historic 1854 Hertzler House to see how people lived in that time period.

Batty About Bats!, Mon., October 3, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., Fairborn Library
Join the Clark County Park District and the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery to learn about our amazing flying mammal, the bat. Uncover the myths about bats, cool facts about these mysterious mammals and how YOU can help them in the wild. Meet a live fruit bat from Boonshoft's Discovery Zoo! This program is a collaboration with BW Greenway, for their "Sense of Place" program series.
