TBDC AND BARD COLLEGE PARTNERSHIP: YEAR TWO

This semester marks the beginning of our second year of partnership with Bard College--and we couldn't be more excited!
IN THE CLASSROOM
This fall we are taking a new approach to teaching Trisha Brown's work in the classroom. Rather than focusing on technique or restaging repertory, students this semester will move deeply into Brown's creative ideologies. In the spirit of Brown--open, light, and doggedly inquisitive--we will approach her work while cultivating her playful rigor. We are interested in big, wild physicality while driving into more formal applications of her dancing.

Trisha Brown never codified a technique, preferring instead that her dancers prepare their bodies for rehearsal according to their own physical interests and practices. This has resulted in a highly individualized approach to training for Trisha's work. This semester we are bringing a diverse range of Company guests to approach Brown's work with their own expertise. Instructors include Tara Lorenzen, Cori Olinghouse, Wendy Perron, and Diane Madden.

COMPANY RESIDENCY
TBDC will be in residence at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts from September 5-9. As we actively prepare for our fall tour engagements, being in residence allows for more significant interaction with the campus population. Through open rehearsal visits and informal networking opportunities, students will get closer to the Company than ever before.

The Company's residency will include a showing of fall repertory selections on Thursday, September 8, at 7:30pm in the LUMA Theatre at the Fisher Center. We look forward to sharing our recent reconstruction, Geometry of Quiet (2002), along with selections from Opal Loop (1980), Groove and Countermove (2000), and others. Tickets are free, but reservations are required.

SPECIAL EVENTS
On Monday, October 3, TBDC Scholar in Residence Susan Rosenberg will be delivering a lecture on the work of Trisha Brown at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, slated to begin at 6:00pm. Rosenberg's forthcoming publication, Trisha Brown: Choreography as Visual Art 1962-1987 (Wesleyan Press) is scheduled for release November 2016.
TBDC EDUCATION PROJECTS NEAR AND FAR

NEW YORK, NY
This semester, dancers at New York University Tisch School of the Arts are creating a version of Set and Reset/Reset. In Set and Reset/Reset, dancers learn original movement material from Trisha Brown's 1983 masterpiece Set and Reset and compose a new dance using the same compositional strategies. The result is a wholly original work created by students. For this project, students will work with TBDC restager and Associate Artistic Director Diane Madden to create the dance and reimagine the original Rauschenberg designs for performance. The work will premiere December 1-3 at the Jack Crystal Theater.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA
TBDC Associate Artistic Director Diane Madden will travel to San Francisco, CA to collaborate with TBDC alum Hope Mohr and the Hope Mohr Dance Bridge Project, entitled Ten Artists Respond to Locus. In partnership with local curators, HMD has commissioned a diverse group of ten outstanding artists to learn Brown's iconic dance Locus--a work that was created originally as a quartet in 1975 and ultimately performed as a solo--and create new works in response. HMD will present the ten premieres, along with a performance by local dancers of Locus Solo itself, in the Yerba Buena Arts Council Forum on October 14 & 15. In addition to teaching the dance and mentoring the commissioned artists, Diane Madden will lead a public lecture on the influence of Brown's work in dance and visual art.

DURHAM, NC
In coordination with the Company's performance on campus this October 21-23, Duke University Dance Department (Durham, NC) will host TBDC alum Ming Lung Yang and TBDC guest dancer Samuel Wentz for a three-day teaching and repertory workshop. The three days will culminate in a public, site-specific showing on the lawns of Duke University's East Campus.

SEATTLE, WA
Students in the Chamber Dance Company at the University of Washington (Seattle, WA) will perform Trisha Brown's iconic solo, Accumulation (1971) on stage October 13-16. This project is led by TBDC dancer Jamie Scott.

(1979) to audiences near and far. Following presentations at the Columbia Dance Center (Chicago, IL), the Joyce Theater (New York, NY), and the American Dance Festival (Durham, NC), the Company will bring the work to sites throughout eastern Europe.
