The pain of separation will not heal until the cause is undone The experience of separation or divorce can be peaceful, painful, or even devastating on the physical plane, yet it is comforting to remember that in truth, separation is not real. While you are in the midst of a challenge or a painful experience, it is tempting to get preoccupied with your circumstances and forget how the situation came to be. The pain of separation will not heal until the cause of separation is undone and resolved at its inception, which is in your mind. In Chapter 4, Jesus offers this wisdom, "You dream of a separated ego and believe in a world that rests upon it. This is very real to you. You cannot undo it by not changing your mind about it. The little willingness Sometimes your sadness and hurt feelings can feel so heavy that the weight is like being buried under a pile of rubble. If this is your experience, it is important to remember that the healing is not up to you. Your part is to reach up and ask the Holy Spirit, your Teacher of Peace, for help. In A Course in Miracles, you learn about the "little willingness" and how this is all that is needed to learn the conditions for peace and get the healing process moving. The little willingness does not mean that you have to think more clearly, or that you must have more positive or spiritual thoughts. It is actually easier than that. The little willingness means that you must be willing to have no fear thoughts that you would keep. If you think about that, it is pretty easy. You may be feeling hurt, sad, devastated, or angry, yet at the same time, it is possible to be willing to have none of those thoughts that you would keep.
