 Welcome on Board

The Upstate South Carolina Alliance is a public/private regional economic development organization designed to market and promote the dynamic, commerce-rich, northwestern corner of South Carolina.

Upstate SC Alliance investors  learning about international opportunities

Since 2007, our region has attracted over $15 billion in capital investment and 49,000 new jobs. With a talented workforce, a diverse range of industry, strong infrastructure, and an attractive lifestyle, it's no wonder top companies such Michelin, BMW, General Electric, Fluor, Milliken, and Fuji all call Upstate South Carolina home.

The Port of Charleston is Ready
  Post-Panamax Containerships
Reach East Coast Ports

After 10 years of construction, the adjustments made to the Panama canal will allow this passageway to support two and a half times more vessel capacity.

Charleston, S.C., welcomes 8,500-TEU Hannover Bridge
after passage through expanded canal.

These vessels can now use the canal to travel directly to East coast ports from Asia, instead of stopping at West Coast ports and sending out their products via transcontinental land travel. CEO of the South Carolina Ports Authority, Jim Newsome, says that they "look forward to seeing this larger class of vessels more frequently in [their] harbor."

FACCCarolinas A VOTRE SERVICE

The French-American Chamber of Commerce (FACC) is the most important private organization of its kind.  For more than a century, the FACC has actively promoted strong economic and commercial relations between the United States and France and helped its broad and diverse network of member-companies to develop business on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

The FACC is a unique and valuable business resource for executives active in French-American trade and investment. The FACC's 4000+ members are served by local chapters in 18 major metropolitan areas across the U.S. While the activites of the US Chapters are coordinated by a national executive board, each of the local chambers is a self-sustaining, independent organization with a unique collection of services custom-tailored to the needs of its region and tightly focused on helping members and their companies develop and expand opportunities for investment and trade with France.

The FACC of the Carolinas (FACCCarolinas) is a proud member of the FACC network in the US but is also working directly with the CCI's powerful network in France. (Chambres de Commerce et d'Industrie).

The FACC Carolinas is currently increasing its focus on networking activities through business and social events gathering local authorities, economic development agencies and the US and French business communities.

Among an array of services, the FACC is proud to highlight this month:

J1-Visa
for Foreign Interns and Trainees

The J-1 visa program encourages cultural exchange by allowing exchange visitors to come to the United States for up to 12 months as Interns or for up to 18 months as Trainees to participate in full time, paid, practical training programs. These programs are extremely beneficial for both candidates and host companies, and serve to further economic and diplomatic ties between the U.S. and the world.

The French-American Chamber of Commerce is a U.S. Department of State designated J-1 visa sponsor and is proud to have sponsored qualified candidates for international exchange for over 45 years. As a J-1 visa sponsor, we actively promote the mission of the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961, which aims to increase mutual understanding through exchange experiences.

The FACC J-1 Visa Program can give your company a critical advantage in securing one or several trainees or interns educated in the best European schools quickly. It is available only to companies that are members of the FACC Carolina and, as a result, participants enjoy supportive, individually tailored service

Thank you FACC Carolina's Interns

For the past several month, we have had the pleasure of working with two interns from Davidson College. Michelle Ashling and Alice Johnson helped us in the background, but also might have welcomed you at our Ambassador's reception in April. This semester, they will be studying
abroad : Michelle is heading for London and Alice for Belgium.
We are sad to see them go, but wish them all the best on their new journey!
