Brunswick County Solid Waste & Recycling and Keep Brunswick County Beautiful would like to thank everyone for their support and interest in our e-newsletter.  We hope that you find it informative and will continue to support us in our efforts to keep our community clean.
Litter is an issue all around the globe and a large percent of that litter ends up in our oceans. This is a problem that affects the health of humans and wildlife.

The Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup leads efforts each year to clean the world's shorelines with the help of thousands of volunteers.  The ICC is the world's largest volunteer effort working for a cleaner ocean.  The Ocean Trash Index is a tool that is used to provide a global snapshot of the marine debris collected around the world.  In 2015, nearly 800,000 volunteers collected more than 18 million pounds of trash along the world's shorelines.

For more information on the 2016 International Coastal Cleanup event being held on September 17th, please contact the  Ocean Conservancy or the  Brunswick County Solid Waste Department.
Clean Swell App

You can now report litter that you collect directly to the Ocean Conservancy through the Clean Swell app on your iPhone or Android.  Your entries will be uploaded to the Ocean Conservancy's global ocean trash database.  This data provides researchers and policy-makers with the information that they need to provide solutions.

The app allows you to:
  • Record the trash you collect.
  • Share your results with friends via Facebook, Twitter, and email.
  • Track the total distance cleaned.
  • See the total weight of the trash you collect.
  • Keep a record of your efforts.
  • Help identify trends that are useful in finding solutions.
  • Learn scientific facts about the impact of trash on ocean animals and what you can do to help.
