GeriActors is running a new Training Program in their intergenerational theatre techniques for actors, educators, healthcare providers, and recreation professionals. At the end of this Training Program, trainees will apply what they learned by leading workshops for seniors in Performance Storytelling.

GeriActors is inviting seniors' venues and organizations to host these workshops over a period of three weeks, November to December 2016. Minimal cost to hosts!

Performance Storytelling - Using theatre exercises, improv, laughter and fun GeriActors inspires reminiscences, and helps participants turn their stories into moments of theatre to share with others. The literature suggests that use of the internet can help promote successful aging through increased social inclusion and access to information and services. Yet, questions remain as to the realities and perspectives among older adults regarding their relationship with the internet, and in what ways internet use affects their capacity to stay socially connected as they age.

The presenter will talk about her research into the advantages and disadvantages internet use provides older adults; the role the internet plays in their lives; the effect (if any) the technologizing of services has on the well-being of older adults; and in what ways internet use affects their level of social inclusion. The Assessing Outcomes of Enhanced Chronic Disease Care Through Patient Education and a Value-based Formulary Study (ACCESS) is a three-year study being conducted by investigators at the University of Calgary. The ACCESS study is looking at whether providing preventive medications free of charge for selected high value medications, and a comprehensive patient education program, combined with relay of information on optimal medication use from patients to their healthcare providers, will improve people's health.

You may be eligible for the study if you are an Albertan age 65 and older, with an annual income of less than $50,000, who only has Alberta Blue Cross insurance for Seniors, who has a chronic disease of interest (i.e. heart disease, prior stroke, heart failure, or kidney disease) or who is at high risk of cardiovascular disease (a combination of diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking or high cholesterol).  If you think wish to participate, call 1-844-944-8927 to confirm your eligibility and get enrolled.
