Worship with us this Sunday!
Join us this Sunday for worship at 9:30am or 11:00am W e will worship according to a liturgy of the Iona Community of Scotland.

Iona is an island off the western coast of Scotland that for many generations housed a monastic community.  That community faded away as we entered the modern era but was resurrected 80 years ago by a pastor from Glasgow.  It is now the home of a broadly ecumenical Christian community that hosts extended retreats and publishes worship material that is grounded in the ancient Christian rites but which is theologically progressive and contemporary in the use of language.

Those of us who have worshipped as part of a more liturgical tradition will recognize the elements and the organization of this service.  In broad outline it follows the sequence of the mass.  But just as music is more compelling when the chord progression is not quite what one anticipates, so this order is one that I find engaging in part because of the ways it departs from the classic words.  Join us this Sunday.

In four weeks the service will be something entirely different.  We will share more about that at the date approaches.

Small Group Discussion Gatherings:
Last spring the Tuesday Evening Discussion
group read  Beyond Resistance, a book by John Dorhauer, the General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ. As part of the Healthy Spirits/Healthy Relationships segment of the Sabbatical, we have set up small group discussions groups to share a meal and discuss questions raised by Dr Dorhauer. Examples of the questions are: what does the church mean to you?  How do you connect to it in spirit and actions? How can we help our church grow in mission to better serve each other and our neighbors? What's most important to you about Parkway?

Please sign up for one of these groups in the Gathering Space. You don't have to read the book but you may want to pick up one of the summary pamphlets called Our Mission is Business in the Gathering Space.

Please see Helen Race for any questions:  [email protected]   or call 314-401-4382.

It's not too late to join the choir!

Inspiration
We must understand that this word God has the following synonyms: Reality, the Source of Life, the Most Subtle State of Everything. The love of God is the love of the greatest Truth. This quest concerns Reality, not religion. The "love of God" is our essential relationship with what is most real.
