As part of the Job Creators Network "Bring Small Business Back" nationwide tour, several Coloradoans including U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, Heidi Ganahl, Kristen Muzzy and Curt Henderson joined JCN's Alfredo Ortiz and Elaine Parker in Denver on Monday to raise awareness of small business challenges and opportunities.

The multi-faceted BSBB program tackles three key areas that are hurting growth in the biggest section of the American economy: burdensome taxation, overregulation and lack of access to capital is holding back job creation. To combat these problems on a national level, the BSBB is running an educational bus tour around the country and working with pro-growth legislators.  Read more and see photos

COBRT President Jeff Wasden was the guests for  #QandEh , the bi-weekly interview series where the Consulate General of Canada in Denver chats with the individuals shaping Canada's relationship with the U.S. Rocky Mountain Region. Check out their Facebook page for the transcript or listen to the podcast. You'll discover how Wasden feels about current Canadian-U.S. relations, how he earned his first paycheck, and which Canadian province he'd be!

Around the country, many states have passed or are considering religious exemption measures that effectively legalize discrimination  against LGBT people. These bills have chilling impacts on local economies by driving away customers and making it hard for small businesses to remain competitive.

We need to make sure Colorado doesn't make the mistake of adopting a discriminatory law. Add your name to Small Business Majority's pledge to support small businesses over discrimination.
Lockheed Martin and the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) are establishing new academic programs through a multi-million-dollar agreement that will develop the next generation of space engineers. The Lockheed Martin Radio Frequency (RF) Space Systems Research Center will boost engineering expertise at the school and create new curriculum to fill in-demand skills in the space sector.

The $3 million sponsorship by Lockheed Martin, spread over four years, will establish new academic programs focused on radio frequency (RF) systems. RF fields address commercial, civil and military needs for communications, radar and photonics. Engineers in this field will develop innovative approaches for tracking, navigation and control of spacecraft as well as next-generation global navigation technologies.   Read more
Energy and Environment
There's perhaps nothing more important for our health and well-being than access to safe drinking water. And there are devastating consequences when we neglect our water infrastructure, as we've sadly seen in places like Flint. But right now, you and I have a chance to help fix things.

Please join Alliance for American Manufacturing in urging Congress to pass the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 with strong Buy America provisions. Every $1 we spend on water infrastructure improvements generates $6 in returns. And if we ensure taxpayer dollars are spent on American-made materials like iron and steel, we will create new jobs and invest even more in the American economy.

Last month, historic flooding in Louisiana devastated tens of thousands of lives. The Colorado Oil & Gas Association is partnering with the American Red Cross to help the people impacted by the floods and have set a fundraising goal of $25,000. Red Cross workers provide shelter, food and comfort for those impacted and will continue to remain on the ground as the recovery continues. In 2013, hundreds of thousands of dollars of out of state donations came in to help Colorado recover from our own floods -- now is our time to give back. Please visit click here to donate now.

Business Roundtable President John Engler marked the 20th anniversary of the signing of welfare reform with a call for stronger economic growth. "The dynamism of the U.S. economy really matters when we're trying to move people from poverty to work," he said on the American Enterprise Institute's (AEI) podcast,  Banter"Growth is a huge benefit in every way: It's great for the United States Treasury, but it's really great for the workers and families in the country." AEI also co-sponsored a Capitol Hill event on Monday that featured Engler and former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson, who as governors reformed welfare in their states and led the effort to win the federal legislation that President Clinton signed into law on Aug. 22, 1996.  Listen to the podcast or watch the C-SPAN video.

September is National Preparedness Month. The Ready.gov campaign reminds us that "businesses can do much to prepare for the impact of the many hazards they face in today's world including natural hazards like floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and widespread serious illness. Human-caused hazards include accidents, acts of violence by people and acts of terrorism. Examples of technology-related hazards which can affect businesses are the failure or malfunction of systems, equipment or software.

Ready Business will assist businesses in developing a preparedness program by providing tools to create a plan that addresses the impact of many hazards. Create emergency safety kits for your office, a communication tree, a business continuity plan, download media like brochures and posters, evaluate the effectiveness of your plans with the tools provided, and lots more.   Prepare now
