In addition to attending the corporate events, you can also help prepare high school students to compete in the student version of the JA Stock Market Challenge by facilitating two, 45-minute classroom-based lessons. We also need event-day volunteers.

The student events will take place on Nov. 3 and 4 in Denver and on Nov. 11 in Fort Collins.

Volunteers Needed for New Jeffco Career Readiness Program
This fall, JA is partnering with Jeffco Public Schools to facilitate a Career Expo experience for sophomores in the district. We need your help to facilitate workshops on topics such as personal branding, resume writing and work etiquette. These workshops will take place in classrooms before and after students attend the Expo. 

Click here to let us know you're interested in volunteering for this exciting program. You will have the help of a classroom teacher, and JA will provide all materials and training. Most importantly, by signing up, you will be a positive role model for young people, and sharing your stories will bring JA's programs to life.
4 Teams, 2 Seats, 1 Winner
JA provided one JA Golden Ticket for every $50 donation made from July 1 to Aug. 24. Each JA Golden Ticket was a chance to win a pair of season tickets to attend every home game for the Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies and Avalanche.

The winning number was drawn on Aug. 31 by JA students from Second Creek Elementary School in Commerce City. A video of the drawing was posted on JA's Facebook page. Congratulations to the winner and thank you to everyone who participated!

JA raised $46,450 through the JA Golden Ticket campaign, which will provide JA programs to 1,161 local students during the 2016/17 school year, giving them the opportunity to change the future and create their ticket to success. 
Cordillera Golf Experience
JA has been selected as the Charity Partner for the Cordillera Golf Experience. The event is Colorado's ultimate golf and leisure weekend, set against the world-class backdrop of the Club at Cordillera in the Vail Valley on Sept. 10 and 11. Click here for complete details.

JA has been named a finalist in First Western Trust's #WealthIsAbout Grants Contest. This contest gives JA a chance to win $7,000, which would enable us to provide JA programs to seven local classrooms at no cost to schools. Now, we need your help!

On Aug. 12, JA Charity Ascent participants hiked Mt. Sherman to help Colorado students reach new heights! Twenty h ikers raised $3,340 to support financial literacy and entrepreneurship education. Special thanks to event sponsor Transworld Business Advisors of Denver!

Steamboat Springs JA Bowl-A-Thon
The first annual Steamboat Springs JA Bowl-A-Thon, presented by the Young Professionals Group, was a striking success! The Aug. 18 event raised $10,000 to help provide JA programs to 1,000 students in Routt County.

Grand Prix 
The 4th SOC Grand Prix was held on Aug. 27 in Fort Collins. Twenty-six teams raced in this fun event, which raised funds  to bring JA programs to Northern Colorado schools.

President's Message
For work that is real
Robin Wise
As we head into the 2016/17 school year, I'm thrilled to celebrate a milestone anniversary as president and CEO of JA-Rocky Mountain. Twenty-five years. It's been an amazing journey. And if you count the years that I was a JA student, I've been a part of JA a lot longer than I care to admit!

Benjamin Franklin said that, "the noblest question in the world is what good may I do in it?" For me the answer to that question didn't come quickly, and it didn't come easily. I'd love to tell you that I started working at JA-Rocky Mountain right out of college, but in reality, I took a few roads less traveled. I was in, then out, then back in college and explored a couple of career paths before I arrived here. I quickly saw the use I could be in helping to build and steward an organization that inspires young people to see possibilities, seize opportunities and earn their future economic success. 

My joy comes from working alongside you - committed professionals and volunteers who work with a defined purpose and an inspired mission to help students understand the free enterprise system and their place in it. It's the tireless dedication of our volunteers that reminds me that leadership is not about how to do; it's about how to be. And our JA volunteers have seized the opportunity to be part of something larger than themselves.  

There's a poem that I love by Marge Percy titled "To Be of Use." These excerpts sum up my views on finding meaningful work. 

T he people I love the best 
jump into work head first 
without dallying in the shallows 
and swim off with sure strokes almost out of sight.

I love people who harness themselves, an ox to a heavy cart,
who strain in the mud and the muck to move things forward, 
who do what has to be done, again and again. 

Hopi vases that held corn, are put in museums 
but you know they were made to be used. 
The pitcher cries for water to carry 
and a person for work that is real. 

I am so honored to have the opportunity to work in partnership with remarkable teachers, students, business leaders, and volunteers on work that is meaningful and real. Whether you join us as a JA volunteer, or you find an entirely different path, find your passion and be of use. After 25 years I can say without question....there's absolutely nothing like it!
JA Kick Start Your Future: A Valuable Collaboration for Denver's Kids
For a second year, JA-Rocky Mountain partnered with the Denver Police Department and several other organizations to offer JA Kick Start Your Future -- a week-long summer program designed to give at-risk students a place to learn valuable tools that will help them be successful in life and in the business world. The program was held in August at College View Recreation Center.

Middle and high school students from Southwest Denver participated in a variety of workshops and hands-on experiences with an emphasis on job readiness and financial literacy. They learned about personal branding, relationship building, personal financial management and entrepreneurship.

"It was a dynamic week filled with great learning opportunities," said JA Program Manager Jill Hrnicek. "Students had job shadow experiences at three local companies - PwC, Encana and Comcast - and they ended the week as entrepreneurs charged with developing and presenting a product idea."

2017 Colorado Business Hall of Fame Laureates Named
JA and the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce the 2017 inductees into the Colorado Business Hall of Fame representing the state's most distinguished cadre of business leaders from the past and present. Laureates, selected for their enduring and innovative professional contributions to Colorado, inspirational and ethical acumen and philanthropic endeavors, will be inducted at the 28th Annual Colorado Business Hall of Fame Dinner on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center. The event is generously underwritten by UMB Bank.

University Volunteer Learns Alongside Students
Paulina Cisneros inspires young learners
Many of us have heard the old adage that the best way to learn something is to teach it. This certainly is the case for many JA-Rocky Mountain volunteers who spend time reviewing and strengthening their own economic and financial management knowledge in order to effectively teach JA programs. And, for university student volunteer Paulina Cisneros, this was particularly true.

"I volunteered at Clayton Partnership School where I taught students about the global marketplace," said Paulina. "Before I could teach the kids, I had to learn the material myself and brush up on the economics I had learned during my senior year in high school."

In her second year of college at Johnson & Wales University, Paulina is studying Baking and Pastry Arts. As a JA volunteer, Paulina was able to supplement her university knowledge with the concepts that she learned through her volunteer service. And, she inspired younger students in the process.

"The most rewarding part of my experience was seeing the excitement on the kids' faces knowing that someone new came to their class and throughout the day they would learn something different in a fun and interactive way," said Paulina.

An increasing number of university students are volunteering to teach JA programs through JA College Connect presented by TIAA. Whether they are connecting with JA through a service learning class at their college or university, or, like Paulina, volunteer on their own, JA is tapping into the energy and enthusiasm of the millennial generation to build a pipeline of future JA advocates. "I encourage other college students to volunteer and try something new that they never really considered before. It's a great learning experience for the kids and for you," said Paulina. "You learn new concepts and what you're capable of, and it can have a positive impact on kids' lives."
