PAVING PROJECT UPDATE

ASPHALT PAVING SCHEDULED
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 1, 2016

On Thursday, September 1st, the Paving Contractor will be installing the first course of asphalt on W. Maple Road (between Cranbrook and Chesterfield).  The Contractor is expected to arrive for this work at about 7:00 AM, and proceed to pave the road, starting with the south side/lane, then the middle and finally the north side/lane.

If you will need access to a vehicle Wednesday, and your driveway accesses the section of road listed above, we ask that you park on an adjoining street.  The Police Department will be notified to not ticket cars parked on adjacent streets in residential permit parking areas.  Homes on the south side of W. Maple Road need to have their vehicles moved by 7:00 AM and homes on the north side by NOON.

We will need your cooperation to ensure a successful job.  Before the new pavement is placed, the road will be swept, and a tack coat will be placed.  Once the tack course is placed, it is very important to not drive on the road, since the tack coat can stick to cars and driveways and is very difficult to remove.

Once the asphalt has been placed, and cools, the road will be reopened to LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY traffic later in the day.  The top layer of asphalt will be placed in the near future.  You will receive a separate notice for that work.

Although not anticipated, in the event of rain, the project may have to be postponed until a later date, and you will be notified again.  We will most likely not know of a postponement until after the day has begun.

We understand that the above restrictions will cause inconveniences.  We hope that you will be willing to work with us as we attempt to bring this portion of the project to a close.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask the City of Birmingham representative on site.  Or, you may call the Engineering Department at 248-530-1850.
