August 15th-19th, 2016
Roar!  Stomp!  Hiss!  The sounds of animals filled the halls of Baroody Camps this week during our Animal Planet themed week. Our 2nd to last week of camp was capped off with a visit from Glen Echo Aquarium where they hosted several sea creatures (sharks, crabs, and more) and campers were able to get up close and touch them.  Field Trip campers were out and about in the D.C. area visiting locations like; Burke Lake Park, Air and Space Museum, Pinstripes Bowling, Water Mine Swimmin' Hole, and the Natural History Museum!

Some camper & counselor  quotes from the week:
"I loved when we made quicksand!  That was cool!"
"I love Fridays when we get to go to the pool and have pizza!"
"It was fun to learn about the ocean in Science!"
"I made a cute dog in Art class during the Farm Day!"
"Fit Kids is my favorite!"

Animal Planet
The wonders of the earth

Arts & Craftivities
Masterpieces in the Making

Each day of the week campers were
introduced to a different zone of the earth.  Monday took our campers deep into the ocean where they created jellyfish lights.  Tuesday took us into the heart of the jungle where campers worked with chalk pastels.  On Wednesday we scurried over to the farm where campers learned how to bring these creatures to life.  On Thursday we slowly crept our way to the swamp and made bubble wrap alligators.  Lastly on Friday, we went on a safari where we created sunset pictures of animals in the wild!

Top Chef
 No Reservations in our kitchen

Did you know that if you make blue jello, add some Nila Wafers, and put in some swedish fish that it can look like the bottom of the ocean?  Our campers discovered ways to make treats that resembled animals from all over the globe!

Highlights include:
                -Swedish Fishy Jello
-Monkey Munch
-Zucchini Chips
-Alligator Pie
-"Ostrich" Egg Muffins

S cience Mania
Hypotheses & Theories
Campers were SURPRISED and even delighted by some of the discoveries they made this week about our planet earth.  Who knew that there were more than 5 zones in the ocean and that most resided in the sunlight zone?  What about that quicksand acts like a solid and liquid or that alligators use blankets of mud to keep themselves cool?

Highlights include:
-Ocean Zones
-Quicksand
-Farm Bird Feeders
-Alligator Habitats
-Miniature Tents

Fit Kids
        A Hop, skip, & a jump
Baroody Camps had fun in Fit Kids this week as we figured out ways to cross the "ocean" together using teamwork and using only "rafts" (gym mats).  It's hard to play soccer when you have to walk like a crab or complete a relay leaping like a frog (check out the picture to the left).

Highlights includes
-Crab Walk Soccer
-Shark Attack
-Jungle Knots
-Barnyard Noises
-Animal Hunt
-Voyage Across the Ocean
-Zoo Tag
