Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association

Veterans helping Veterans.
That's how CVMA member and Marine Corps Veteran Phillip Modesti describes the Vet-based Motorcycle Association to which he belongs. Since his local
Nathan Hale Chapter 31-1 learned about our needs at
Homes for the Brave
, that's exactly what they've done.
As the name suggests, the
Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association consists of individuals who have served in the United States military and have a love for riding motorcycles. Most importantly, its members are dedicated to supporting Veterans in need whenever they can, from raising funds to identifying job opportunities, securing transportation for disabled vets, and beyond.
In June, the Association launched our partnership by making a $1,000 donation toward the operation of our housing, case management, and vocational services. After touring
Homes for the Brave, its members were immediately engaged and asked the entire 31-1 membership to host a supply drive on our behalf.
By August 28, the group had collected two truck fulls of donations, such as clothing, toiletries, food, paper goods, and gift cards. That morning, they rode as a group to Homes for the Brave, joined our residents for breakfast, and presented to them the gifts they had collected.
The bonds between CVMA's members and HFTB's residents formed instantaneously. "As we were leaving, several people told me that they had made true friends that day," said Modesti.
After breakfast, the group told us that we were in for one more surprise. At that moment, members of Two Wheels Organization--a group that provides new and restored bicycles to those in need--pulled into the parking lot with five brand new mountain bikes in tow.
For many of our residents, receiving the gift of reliable transportation was the highlight of the day. For Modesti, it was "showing our loyalty and partnership to fellow Veterans and the fact that everyone from our CVMA group came together to make that happen."
We thank the members of CVMA 31-1 for all they have done for us this summer and look forward to growing our partnership for the good of all Veterans.
We are pleased to announce that through the partnership we've built with CVMA, member Phillip Modesti has joined our Board of Directors. We know he will be a tremendous asset in achieving our mission to help his fellow Veterans thrive. Welcome, Phillip!

The First Congregational Church of Greenwich
We'd like to thank The First Congregational Church of Greenwich for a $4,500 grant that will support the House Monitor position in our Female Soldiers: Forgotten Heroes program. The individuals in this position ensure that our residents are safe and comfortable and receive the support they require 24 hours a day.
Homerun for Heroes
This year, our hosts and generous sponsors broke their fundraising record by generating over $70,000 for local Veteran charities, including
Homes for the Brave.
Following the ceremonial check presentation, game attendees enjoyed an on-field helicopter landing, a fireworks display, and some good old fashioned baseball. Veterans--including our residents--also received complimentary admission, hats, and concession vouchers.
Exchange Club of Shelton
This month, we were thrilled to welcome back our friends from the Exchange Club of Shelton. On August 31, a dozen of its members and their families hosted an end-of-summer picnic, featuring favorites like fresh-grilled burgers and dogs. To make the meal extra special for our residents, they blew us away by adding to the menu pork tenderloin, Spanish rice, fried chicken, and salads and desserts galore!
We can't imagine a better book end to a wonderful summer than to enjoy an extravagant feast with people we love. Thank you, Exchange Club of Shelton!
Dancing with the Stars Brookfield
On September 9, Fred Astaire Dance Studios will host Brookfield's Dancing Stars Gala: a new fundraising event full of all the fun, glitz and glamour of the hit TV show Dancing with the Stars! At The Amber Room in Danbury, local Brookfield Celebrities will learn a polished choreographed routine and perform with a professional partner. The winner will earn a cash prize for the charity of their choice.
We are honored that Navy Veteran and ABRI Board Member, Paula Canter, will be competing on behalf of
Female Soldiers: Forgotten Heroes! To support Paula's efforts and
FS:FH, we hope you will
attend the gala or make a contribution toward
Paula's campaign.
Go Paula--we'll be rooting for you!
