Whats Happening at Tannenbaum This Month....

We are excited to have TWO book signings this month!

On Saturday, September 17 from 11 AM to 2 PM, we will have the author and illustrator of A Door County  Night Before Christmas , Carol Davis and Jan Rasmussen, in the store for a book signing. This book takes the classic "Night before Christmas" story and adds it's own Door County twist. For example, Santa's sleigh is now being pulled by the badgers, whose names are Erik, Elsa, Sven, Gustav, Arvid, Inga, Bjorn, and Thor. And now Santa is eating cheese curds and Belgian pies, not so many cookies! Santa is taking the ferry to Washington Island and flying over the Eagle Tower and then after leaving all of his gifts he heads on to Wabeno, Waupaca, Wautoma, Wausaukee, and turns left and goes on to Milwaukee! Plus, in all of the illustrations, Jan has drawn a small "door" for you discover. This story is truly a delight for all ages and what better way to make this a perfect gift than to have it personalized and autographed by the author and illustrator themselves.

And be sure to ask them about their new book, "Dee Cee the Door County Freighter," hopefully available later on this year. This is the story about a smaller than average freighter who is teased by the big freighters for being so different from them. That is, until the day a winter storm hit in Door County and supplies were needed at Washington Island and all the big freighters were stranded and iced in at the docks. But little Dee Cee comes to the rescue for Washington Island and bravely sails through the fierce storm and delivers the much needed supplies. We will definitely be offering "Dee Cee the Door County Freighter" book at Tannenbaum as soon as it is available.  Why not reserved some autographed copies today!

On Saturday, September 24 from 11 AM to 2 PM we welcome new book author Ann Heyse to Tannenbaum signing her recently released book titled Good Morning, Door County.  This book highlights all the fun things to do in Door County in the summer months like visiting The Farm, and playing at Peninsula State Park, visiting all the lighthouses, eating at all the fun restaurants and so much more. The illustrations are beautiful and each one has cherries hidden in the scene!  More fun when reading the book. So join us at Tannenbaum to meet Bailey Harbor's new author Ann Heyse.
STEINBACH SALE SEPTEMBER 24 & 25

Usually at the end of September Tannenbaum hosts a Steinbach signing event. However, due to Steinbach's unfortunate bankruptcy and sale of the business, we are not able to continue that event. So instead we decided to offer all our "signed" Steinbach nutcrackers at 20% off all weekend long! Take advantage of this great savings and shop our large selection of nutcrackers, smokers and ornaments. They will delight anyone who receives it as a gift this Christmas, and you will feel great because of the money you saved by shopping at Tannebaum!
Happy Halloween from Byers Choice
Byers' Choice has introduced new Halloween pieces including a Witchy Woman and Girl.   The Witchy Woman is one of the prettier witches in the store.  She is wearing a purple satin dress and black cape covered in bats.  She is carrying a cauldron topped off with green smoke.  There is a coordinating young Witchy Girl wearing a similar purple dress, "batty" cape, and a black mask.  She is carrying a small pumpkin.

In addition to the witches, Byers Choice has introduced a Skeleton Boy.  This boy is wearing solid black with a white skeleton down the center of his outfit.  In addition, he has a red cape and a black mask.  In front of the boy stands a tombstone inscribed with "Bad to the Bone."

Byers Choice also introduced a new accessory for the Halloween Carolers, a Halloween Table.
This table has a large silver cauldron topped off with green smoke.  Making it the perfect addition to your Halloween scene.

Last year, Byers Choice introduced several fun mice, who were caught in the act of various antics. Continuing with this theme, this year Byers Choice has added a new mouse.  She is dressed in black with orange smiley pumpkins on her shirt.  This mouse is standing on a candle holder with an orange pumpkin.  A special surprise with this piece is the candle really lights up!  Unlike some other Halloween decorations that are all about adding a little fright to the home, this mouse is all about enjoying the fun of Halloween.
Halloween Broom
So many brooms are meant solely for cleaning, but we have a broom that will put the fright in anyone this Halloween. Our Halloween broom spins around and makes cackling sounds whenever someone touches it. While we think the sound effects add to the excitement to the broom, we know there are some individuals who may appreciate a silent broom. Thankfully, the designers have added a switch allowing you to choose if you want the sound on or off. Either way, this broom is sure to be a conversation starter at any Halloween gathering.
Haunted Broom
Haunted Broom
Halloween Village by Dept 56
We welcome a villa to the Halloween neighborhood, Ghastly's Haunted Villa.  Unlike his brothers Grimsly and Gravely, Ghastly spends much of his free time frightening folks half to death. He gets the biggest kick out of going out from midnight till dawn, spooking in the cemetery, hiding behind bushes, and startling paperboys. He and his brothers share a code with the lights; if the green light is on, Ghastly is out scaring the town, if no light is on he's home sleeping. Because he sleeps all day, the house is very unkempt, as anyone can see from the dilapidation like holes in the roof and the bats hanging from the eves.  Department 56 also created an accessory piece to compliment this villa, Ghastly's Night Out, which showcases Ghastly returning home from a night of spooking the town. He has been making so much noise that his jaw hurts and he is using his kerchief for support.

Bobbing for apples, pin the tail on the skeleton, and a piƱata that hang from a wire tree, are just some of the games found outside the Halloween Party House. We can only imagine what other fun games await inside. Decorated with purple and silver metallic, this is certainly a welcome addition to the Trick-Or-Treat lane. Coordinating with this house is the Party for Treats accessory which has three children in their costumes comparing their treats.

There's a new lighthouse in Door County! Well, it's like a lighthouse, but it's not for ships and sailors, it's for the Witches of the Hollow.... Witch Way Home Tower has 360 degree windows and a lantern at the top is much like a lighthouse. The bright beacon offers a guide light, leading the girls aboard brooms home safely. Tilly, the Tower Witch, uses her talents and equipment to watch out for her sisters. Her trusty owls help her to spot the gals. Large, shuttered doors at the top open to the landing pad.  Tilly's broom rests at the front entrance, which also includes a convenient cat door. To complement this tower, we suggest the Witch Watch piece.  Witch Watch shows Tilly, the Tower Witch, using an old telescope to look for her sisters in flight. Holding a highly detailed map of the night sky and trusting the advice of her favorite owl, there's no doubt she'll be able to guide the other witches home to safety.

Look Who's Talking Now Theatre is adorned with purple velvet draperies, sculpt the upper story windows, hint that this theatre once had an air of elegance that has been taken over by time and darkness. But come inside, because the entertainment will be worth it. The world's creepiest ventriloquists perform here nightly. Just look out for Chuckles, the dummy with a mind of his own. Oops, it's too late, Chuckles is already working at the ticket window. Sculpted lanterns, grates on the doors, and spider web attachments add to the ambiance of this old theatre. Just remember the back door is for "Dummies" only. To accompany this piece, Department 56 created the Who's the Dummy Now?. This unique Halloween piece shows a shocking turn of events, where the roles have been reversed and the dummy has taken over the role of the ventriloquist.

This year's Harley-Davidson piece is the Harley-Davidson's Last Chance Garage. Featuring jagged glass, a broken out window frames the showroom bike featured in the main display.  "Serving You to the Bitter End" is the slogan above the door. This garage comes with a gas tank out front offering fuel to customers willing to take a chance. Accompanying this piece are two accessories Ride Away Bride and Mummimizing My Ride. Ride Away Bride shows the bride of Frankenstein riding off into the night on her own Harley.  Mummimizing My Ride is a local mummy repairing his bike. Both accessories help to bring the Harley-Davidson's Last Chance Garage to life.

The final new item in this year's Halloween collection is the Sweet Trappings Cottage. Inspired by the "Hansel and Gretel" story, this new candy cottage has the creep factor amped up. Signage and giant candles are used by the witch to lure kids of all ages to her cottage. To the side awaits a cage, where the unsuspecting kids are trapped. Boarded up windows and doors on the back help to prevent an escape. However, there is a rope from the 3rd story window that proves there is a way out if you are brave enough to try. This cottage isn't all scary, there is a delicious looking candy corn roof, candy stone walls, and a lollipop by the front door. This house would not be complete without the Witch Trap accessory.  Witch Trap shows the witch trying to catch her latest victim, a boy hiding behind a bush.

Burk'art Nativity
One of the more unique nativity sets in our store is the Burkart Collection. This collection features clay figurines that have been "impressed'' with a variety of antique objects to depict the Biblical story. Unlike other nativity sets, these pieces are more abstract. Each piece is handmade in Canton Georgia, USA and features elements found around the house. For example, the pattern on the angel is done using antique lace and the design on one of the sheep is impressed with the end of a cinnamon stick. New pieces added to the line this year include the Grace angel and a set of geese that have been glazed white and have bills of a rusty orange.

Burk'art Nativity have been creating their unique creations "one of a kind...one at a time" for 25 years.  n that time they have produced over 100 tons of clay products! The creative connection travels between the artist's imagination, the purpose for the work, and on to the customer.
Check out this very unique collection next time you are visiting Tannenbaum.
The Thyme is Now
We are excited to announce that we have received our big holiday shipment of Frasier Fir products from Thymes. Thymes makes the beautiful air fresheners, reed diffusers, hand lotion, candles, scented wax melts, dish washing liquid, sachets, and cleaning products in this wonderful fragrance that we feature in the store every day. We love that aromatic snap of Siberian Fir needles, cedarwood, and earthy sandalwood of Thymes' Frasier Fir. Every year, Thymes redesigns the packaging of these products just in time for the holiday season with their fresh from the forest designs, metallic silver with pine needles, and white candles trimmed with 24-karat gold accents.

Also just released is their new fragrance for the holiday, "Simmered Cider" featuring a blend of freshly-pressed apples mulled with crushed clove and cardamom, and just the hint of bourbon and malted rum. We have room sprays, diffusers, candles in fun containers like a copper mug, and wax melts.

And more "Gingerbread" fragrance products have arrived including the diffuser, room spray, candles, and wax melts featuring the warm aroma of baked gingerbread. What could be better than that!

Santa's Magic Snow
We always love finding new books to bring to the store, as evident by the overflowing book selection in our card room. We especially like books that have something that transcends the story (e.g. an ornament, an activity, etc).  Santa's Magic Snow is a story about a child who is wishing for snow. On Christmas when the little boy runs to the tree he finds foot prints made of "magic snow" surrounding the tree. His father explains that sometimes it's not possible for everyone to have a white Christmas, but that Santa coming from the North Pole sometimes brings magic snow to families. In addition to this beautiful story there is a jar of "magic snow" and foot print outline for your family to enjoy. This book and snow is great for families who may not have a white Christmas and for families who want to add a little excitement to their Christmas morning!
Advent Calendars
This year we have a plethora of advent calendars to suit any price point. First we have our traditional paper advent calendars by Alexander Taron. These advent calendars are made in Germany and feature traditional holiday scenes (e.g. nativity, angels, and Santa). They are also available in postcard size for easy mailing.

In addition, we have a new line of 3D paper advent calendars from Caspari. These feature classic images of angels and a nativity scene. There is also one featuring the Nutcracker Ballet and a fun puppy design.

Finally, we have our wooden advent calendars from Byers Choice. These have been a staple in our store for many years; however, every year Byers creates a few new designs in advent calendars to their collection.  This year we are excited to have brought back our favorites from last year (e.g. Fireside Scene, Nativity Scene, Snowman, Christmas House, Santa's Sleigh and the Christmas Tree).  We also have one new style  The Snow Tree.  We also have two musical wooden advent calendars featuring a North Pole Scene and St. Nick's Toy Shoppe.  Both of these play 12 different classic Christmas songs.  However, Byers Choice is cutting back on the production of the musical advent calendars so quantities are limited. Plus, when you purchase an advent box at Tannenbaum we give you a handy list of ideas to fill the boxes.  What could be better?
2016 Exclusives

Last month we mentioned the Christopher Radko exclusive piece,  Carrying the Magic, which  features a regally dressed Santa in a red and gold coat accented with white pearls. He is carrying a pretty green Christmas tree over his shoulder. T his piece will be signed by the top Christopher Radko designers Mario and Joseph, making it extra special.  We are placing the order for these pieces soon.  If you would like one, please email or call us today!

We also have the 2016 David Frykman Santa in!  This Santa features a blue coat and is holding a baby. This Santa is very unique piece with his blue coat and religious theme very different from all of David's previous Santas. All these pieces have been personally signed by David just for you.  And remember, Tannenbaum is the only shop offering new styles in David Frykman pieces.

The Tannenbaum Reading Corner
This month we wanted to feature a book geared towards our younger readers. ABC  Door County is written by  Kate Kapolnek. This book details the classic ABC's with sites and scenes from around Door County. This book is a wonderful teaching tool for young children, but also fun for any Door County enthusiast. And all of our books have been personally signed by Kate just for our customers at Tannenbaum.

This Month's $50 gift certificate winner is....Sandy Kleen. Congratulations!
