NEW INTERDISCIPLINARY SCHOOL
SEPTEMBER 2016
A WELCOME MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
JAY SILVERSTEIN, Ph.D.

I welcome you to the NIS family with great enthusiasm and high expectations for the upcoming year.  The core principles upon which NIS was founded are the commitment to respect the individual needs of each child and valuing parents as partners in their child's educational journey. NIS  continues to uphold these values through our unique staff and their commitment to warm, engaging, and meaningful relationships with all children. There are numerous forums for you to provide input to assist us in helping your child reach their  potential - team meetings, themed monthly events, parent council, and special events to name a few. NIS will continue to grow and learn from your input in order to provide innovative, evidence-based programs that address the unique strengths and learning style of your child. We offer parent training, educational presentations, and workshops to help you better apply the educational and therapeutic approaches implemented at NIS.  On behalf of all of us at NIS, we welcome you, feel honored to be entrusted with the care of your child, and remain committed to exceed your expectations.

Dear Friends of NIS,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!  We are thrilled to see those of you who are returning, and getting to know those families who are new to NIS this fall!  We have many exciting activities planned for students and their families this year, and look forward to having a wonderful year of learning, growing, and flourishing together.

We know how difficult it can be to drop your children off on their first days of preschool, so we welcome you to come to the Open Space after you drop your children off for a Boo-Hoo Breakfast, to shed a tear or two with other families sharing similar emotions.  It will be a nice way to calm your nerves while getting to know other families within the school.

Please 'like' us on Facebook today, as we update our page daily with important information and post fun snap shots of school activities.  All weather related delays and cancellations will also be posted on our Facebook site.  This monthly e-newsletter will also serve as a good reference for you, as it will have all of the important dates and information you will need for the month.

We encourage attendance at our Parent Council meetings, where you can learn ways you can help us at school events and fundraisers, join committees, and more. Meeting dates will be posted on monthly e-newsletters.

You will have the opportunity to visit your child's classroom and meet the staff at Back to School Night. We look forward to getting to know all of you! Our goal is to make NIS a home away from home.  We look forward to another fun year at NIS!

Sincerely,

Susan Cali

Director of Development (x128)

The Richard J. O'Brien Foundation honors the memory of Rich O'Brien, who passed away in September 2010. Throughout his life, Rich was actively involved in helping NIS and other non-profit organizations that helped children across Long Island, so his family and friends pulled together to form a foundation to continue his generous work in his memory. NIS has been a proud recipient of the funds raised at the Richard J. O'Brien Golf Outings for the past few years, and has once again been chosen as a recipient of a portion of the funds raised at the 2016 Breakfast. We hope you can join us!
