Join us this Friday, September 2nd for the 7th Annual SOUPer Bowl Food Drive at the Avon vs. Avon Lake Varsity Football Game at the Avon Lake Memorial Football Stadium.

The SOUPer Bowl is a friendly competition between community members in Avon and Avon Lake to see who can collect the most food by weight. All food collected will directly benefit families in need right here in Avon and Avon Lake. Cash donations will also be accepted. Each $1 contributed will be counted as 5 pounds of food. One truck for each community will be stationed at the football field and will be weighed after the 1st quarter of the game. The winner of the food drive competition will be announced at half time and will be presented with the SOUPer Bowl Trophy.

Since its inception in 2010, the SOUPer Bowl has collected 37,118 pounds of food and $59,287 in cash.

Items can be dropped off at all schools in Avon and Avon Lake, or you can bring your donations to the football game on September 2nd.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Pam at the CRS office, 933-5639.
Birthday Wishes
Thank you to these two awesome gentlemen, Joe Lowe on the left and James Bruder on the right, for bringing in several large boxes of food this month. In honor of James' birthday, a party was hosted at the Knights of Columbus. In lieu of gifts, guests were simply asked to bring a canned good to donate to the local food pantry.

It must have been some party! Thank you for all your support, and Happy Birthday James!
Big Trucks

The annual "Big Trucks" Open House at Avon Lake's Safety Center is being held this year on Saturday, September 17th from 10 am to 2 pm.

Visitors can check out city and safety vehicles and tour the insides of the police and fire departments and court.

And don't forget to stop by the CRS table too! Hope to see you there!

A huge shout out to the Avon Lake Community Garden gardeners that have been bringing fresh produce to CRS this summer! Our clients have really been enjoying all the fresh fruit and veggies!

Speaking of fresh produce, CRS still has one remaining Farmers Market scheduled for this season. It will be held at noon on September 13th and is open to all income qualified individuals and families.

Thank you to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio for providing the food for our summer markets!
Hockey Season?

NO, not yet. But that didn't stop the Avon Lake Hockey team from playing a little bit of street  hockey this summer, all to raise money for CRS!

Thanks to Coach Fran Sullivan and his players for hosting this tournament and giving back to their local community!

Keeping Those Pantry Shelves Filled!
Thank you to St. Edward High School student Jake Kemer for planning and facilitating a food drive to benefit CRS this summer. He collected 150 pounds of food, the equivalent of about $250.

Nice work Jake! We're lucky to have residents like you keeping our shelves stocked throughout the year.

Empty Bowls by the Lake

The annual Empty Bowls by the Lake fundraiser will be held this year on Saturday, October 15th. Potters, students and volunteers are currently working to create handcrafted bowls. Local restaurants will donate soup and bread to serve.

Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread served at the American Legion Post 211 in Avon Lake from 11 am to 2 pm. In exchange for a $20 cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the 'empty bowls' in the world. The event will include live entertainment and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit Second Harvest Food Bank and local community resource centers, including CRS!

More information about Empty Bowls by the Lake can be found by visiting their Facebook page.

In addition, to get ready for the event in October and raise some money early, their team is also planning a Bingo night. Come on out to Buffalo Wild Wings in Avon Lake on September 14th from 6:00 - 9:00 pm to participate in "Vendor Bingo." The cost to play is $10 for 10 rounds of bingo. Prizes will be provided by various vendors. Bingo begins promptly at 7 pm, but there's time to shop the various vendors and mingle from 6-7. More information on that can also be found on the Empty Bowls by the Lake Facebook page.

Be the change you wish to see in the world!
Two Games Remain in the Buffalo Wild Wings Promotion with the Lake Erie Crushers

The Buffalo Wild Wings in Avon Lake has been in partnership with the Lake Erie Crushers this summer in supporting a number of local organizations, including CRS!

At each home Lake Erie Crushers game, a silent auction is held for a "Specialty Jersey" worn by one of the players.  Buffalo Wild Wings chose CRS as one of three charitable organizations to receive the proceeds from the auctions!  The CRS logo will appear on the Specialty Jersey at the following remaining games:

September 1st and 4th

We're very grateful for the support of Buffalo Wild Wings and the Crushers and hope to see many of you at the ballpark...summer isn't over yet!

COMMUNITY DONATIONS

CRS has truly been blessed this month with many donations of non-perishable items for our food pantry and school supplies for our Back-to-School Readiness Program.

Thank you to the following businesses and organizations:  Avon Lake Public Library, Cloud Chamber Vapor, Holy Spirit Church, St. Joseph Church and Church of the Open Door.  Special thanks to St. Joseph Church for providing snack bags for our Summer Snack Bag program this month!  They donated 50 bags containing single serving, kid friendly snacks such as granola bars, crackers and macaroni & cheese.

This is in addition to the many individuals who bring donations to the CRS office on a daily basis.  We are so very grateful for all of the donations that help keep our food pantry well stocked and that help us continue our mission of People Helping People!
