Dear St. Thomas Families,
With the end of August and completion of ten days of school, we are diving head first into September! Watching our students in the classrooms eager to learn reminds me of Walt Streightiff quote: "There are no seven wonders of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million."
This year our school theme is "Let the Light Shine" with focus on developing positive behaviors in manners and respect. On Monday after morning prayer, a quote will be read from "A Year of Good Manners" written by Margret Sinclair. The quote will be selected for a specific behavior so students can reflect and practice during the week.
On Thursday, September 8th, we will have the beginning of this year's supervised safety drills.
The police and fire departments will be on site while we practice fire, tornado, and earthquake procedures. The school will practice a "lockdown" drill the latter part of September (date to be announced). We are scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m., so communication and access to the school will be limited during this time.
Remember that Monday, September 5th is Labor Day, which means that the school will be closed.
Our first "Spirit Wear" day is scheduled for Thursday, September 1st . Students may wear St. Thomas School spirit wear (or other extracurricular team shirt) with their school uniform pants, skirt or jumper. Check out the "Spirit Wear" by visiting our school website
www.sttschool.org
. New spirit wear will be available for purchase on September 5th through the 14th.
As a friendly reminder, remember families are picking up their Preschool child at 2:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, so the car line up for elementary students begins at 2:40 pm. To help expedite the process in the car line, please keep the line moving forward.
During the 2015-2016 school year, St. Thomas families in "A Bench for Caps", collected and recycled over 500 lbs. of plastic caps. The goal for this project was to collect enough caps for an 8 foot bench, which we met. The bench is located in the lower school parking lot and the color is St. Thomas green! Thank you for all who contributed and helped us meet our goal. This year's goal is to collect 1,000 lbs. of plastic caps, which will earn the school an 8 foot picnic table.
Please join us this Friday, September 2nd for an all school mass, beginning at 8:15 a.m.
Have a blessed week.
