St. Paul's Church

August 31, 2016

"Ah, Sovereign Lord," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."  But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you." (Jeremiah 1:6-7)

Dear St. Paul's,

With Robin's recent retirement, we are all learning how much she did for the St. Paul's family.  How did that Wonder Woman do it?!!  Robin hauled all of the supply-filled bins from the Azalea Lane office to the Garden Club. She then set up information tables, and made coffee for the 8 a.m. service.  Robin also organized many of our amazing congregational brunches after church.  Then, after all was said and done on Sundays, Robin was the holder of the key.  She locked the door at the Surf Club and the Garden Club after everyone had left the premises. She was here, she was there, she was everywhere!

Robin, Nate, baby Gideon, puppy Bella
This is just a small snapshot of the seemingly countless tasks that Robin performed with such grace.  But now I'm happy to report that the Lord is equipping a new team of superheroes to do the work of the ministry, and I want to express my deep appreciation for everything that you all are doing.  Because of you, Sundays continue to be a source of joy and spiritual nourishment for all.  Like Jeremiah, you've heard the call of God on your lives, and you are responding in faith.  Thank you.

And finally, I want to keep ministry to children and young families as a top priority in our life together.  Jeremiah was called by God to serve Him while he was still in his youth, and the Lord continues to seek kids for the Kingdom.  At St. Paul's we'll need to be creative until the Flamevine church is complete.  The kids will often be in the "adult worship" with the rest of the community.  Hearing their voices in church may require an added measure of patience, but I hope that will be a source of joy for you as it is for me.  Children are a treasure from the Lord, and He uses them powerfully to accomplish His purposes. The Lord honors us immeasurably in allowing to partner with Him in raising up our kids to fulfill the vision of bringing Christ to the world.  Would you join me in praying for more kids?  Lord, we love children! Please fill us to overflowing!

Gratefully in Christ,

Pr. Jon

tech tip
The internet is an incredible resource, but can also be quite dangerous for children if not supervised and approached with caution.  It's a good idea to have the computer in the kitchen where you can monitor their online time.

Internet Safety Tips for Children
  • Personal Information. Don't give out personal information without your parents' permission. This means you should not share your last name, home address, school name, or telephone number. Remember, just because someone asks for information about you does not mean you have to tell them anything about yourself!
  • Screen Name. When creating your screen name, do not include personal information like your last name or date of birth.
  • Passwords. Don't share your password with anyone but your parents. When you use a public computer make sure you logout of the accounts you've accessed before leaving the terminal.
  • Photos. DON'T post photos or videos online, Facebook, or instagram, without getting your parents' permission.
  • Online Friends. Don't agree to meet an online friend unless you have your parents' permission. Unfortunately, sometimes people pretend to be people they aren't. Remember that not everything you read online is true.
  • Online Ads. Don't buy anything online without talking to your parents first. Some ads may try to trick you by offering free things or telling you that you have won something as a way of collecting your personal information.
  • Downloading. Talk to your parents before you open an email attachment or download software. Attachments sometimes contain viruses. Never open an attachment from someone you don't know.
  • Bullying. Don't send or respond to mean or insulting messages. Tell your parents if you receive one. If something happens online that makes you feel uncomfortable, talk to your parents or to a teacher at school.
  • Social Networking. A majority of 10 to 12-year-olds use social media despite being below the age limit to have an account. Social media services like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Snapchat require account holders to be at least 13 years-old. These requirements are there to protect you!
Research. Talk to your librarian, teacher or parent about safe and accurate websites for research. The public library offers lots of resources. If you use online information in a school project make sure you explain where you got the information.

BEQUESTS

This is the time of year when many people think about financial planning, year-end giving and budgeting for the future and, for Christians, how we can be good stewards over the resources God has provided to us.  One very important aspect of planning, which is too often neglected, is the making of a last will and testament.  We want to remind and encourage you to make this a top priority if you have not already done so and remember bequests to St. Paul's.  For further information or assistance, please contact Pastor Jon at the church office or Dean Sparks at 772.234.2398.
