Summer is coming to an end, and fall is right around the corner. Take advantage of the cooler days by hiking on a nearby trail, spinning in the Tour de Valley, or flying a kite at Coyner Springs Park. Waynesboro is a charming destination where good nature comes naturally!
Tour de Valley

The Tour de Valley takes you on a scenic tour of the Shenandoah Valley and includes t-shirt, stocked aid stations, and SAG vehicle support on the course. Choose from two distances: the 100-mile Century or the 62-mile Metric Century. Stay for the after party at War Memorial Pool in Ridgeview Park where participants can take a swim and enjoy food and beverages.
 
Waynesboro Fire Department Auction

Support of the Waynesboro Fire Department by participating in the annual auction that helps purchase needed equipment for the facility. Donations are welcome anytime before September 10. On the day of the event, tickets will be issued beginning at 8:00 AM, and the auction will start between 8:30-9:00 AM. Used items will be auctioned off during the morning, then the new items will be auctioned beginning around 12 noon. Once completed, auctioning will continue with the remaining used items.

Each fall over 20,000 raptors migrate through Rockfish Gap, and we count them all! Come join us as we witness this great migration and enjoy a fun day of family events including:

- Free grilled hot dogs, snacks & drinks
- Examine mounted raptor specimens up close

- Exibits by local Bird Clubs
- Dissect owl pellets to discover what owls eat
- Master Naturalist Bluebird Trail display

- Exibits on raptors and migration
- Meet our hawk counters
- Try out binoculars and spotting scopes
- Live raptor presentation
- Breeding Bird Atlas presentation 
- Raptor Identification Workshop
- Migratory Bird presentation

Bring a lawn chair, hat, and sunscreen. Binoculars recommended. Pets are discouraged because of live raptors on site.

Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch is located on Afton Mountain on the grounds of the Inn at Afton just off exit 99 (where I-64 intersects with Rt 250, Skyline Drive, and the Blue Ridge Parkway). Rain date: Sunday, Sep 11.   
 
Virginia Chili, Blues n' Brews Festival

Celebrate a whole weekend of blues in beautiful downtown Waynesboro! Friday night, head over to the Wayne and enjoy classic blues from blues great Big Bill Morganfield, son of blues legend Muddy Waters, backed by some of the finest Waynesboro area blues musicians.

Then on Saturday, the gates will open at 2:30 PM for the start of the Virginia Chili, Blues n' Brews Festival, featuring hot chili, cold mega and micro brews, and three amazing bands including our headliner, the international blues artist Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials!

Coyner Springs Kite Fly

Coyner Springs Kite Fly is fun for the young and young at heart! Bring your kites and come have a blast flying with other kite lovers. No kite? No worries. We will be giving away over 300 kites! Grab your spot and watch as all sorts of kites fill the sky. Some kiting clubs will show off their moves with stunt and ballet kites and single and multi-line kites. If the wind is good, the power kites may even come out! Bring your blanket and chairs- there will be plenty to see and do!
