Dear Lakeside Community,
Two weeks and counting until school begins - where did the time go?
We had a School Board Meeting on Wednesday night - here is a summation of actions taken at the meeting:
- There was no action taken on a parcel tax measure for the November ballot. The Ad Hoc Parcel Tax Committee, established by the board in early July, shared a recommendation at the last board meeting to consider a March parcel tax. Based on the Board discussion and community input at last night's meeting, there will be more communication in the next month or so regarding the ramifications if Lakeside were to put out another parcel tax and possible outcomes of that election.
- A survey will be sent out within the next week to assess voter sentiment on another parcel tax. The results of that survey will help inform the Ad Hoc Committee for a future campaign.
- The Board will maintain Transitional Kindergarten for this year and will revisit it in the Spring. There are options with other local school districts for families interested in a "only TK class" rather than our blended option of TK's in the same class with kindergarten students.
- There was no action or decision on the future of middle school programs for our students, as the decision seemed premature. We will have those conversations after a future campaign.
- The Lakeside Safety Plan was approved. A special thanks to board member Les Niles for his assistance with the plan.
- A Memorandum of Understanding was approved with the Loma Prieta School District to provide transportation for students attending CT English Middle School for the 2016/2017 school year. At the June board meeting, the Board made the decision to discontinue transportation to Rolling Hills Middle School. As a result, the fees for students using the transportation to CT English will be reduced from $474 (annual round trip)/$237 (annual one-way) to $80 (annual round trip)/$50 (annual one way).
One of our cost cutting efforts for this school year revolves around the purchasing of school supplies. Please click
HERE to access the lists of supply items your child will need for the 2016/17 school year (located on the right column).
Does your child need a backpack? The Lion's Club graciously donated a dozen black backpacks with assorted school supplies. Please pick one up in the school office if you need one!
Finally,
Supervisor Mike Wasserman shared information about the Zika virus in his latest community communication. I'm sharing it
HERE for your reference. It has great info about the facts surrounding Zika, protection tips, and more.
Warmly,
Dr. Lisa Gonzales
