At the 2016 NCLR Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida, NCLR (National Council of La Raza) and Comcast announced the first group of Comcast Digital Innovation grantees. For 10 years, grants have supported both existing and new initiatives that help Latinos improve their lives through the use of technology.

Comcast's  Internet Essentials provides families with affordable access to the Internet; it was originally designed for families with children eligible to receive a free school lunch from the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). Over the years, the program has expanded to include to children eligible for a reduced price school lunch and families with children in all types of schools. Most recently, on a pilot basis and in an effort to provide greater opportunities and bridge the digital divide, the program was expanded to low-income seniors and low-income community college students.
