Carl Junction Homecoming is September 16. This year's theme revolves around the free spirited, tie-dyed, hippie vibes of the 1960s.
- Parade 1:15 pm: The parade will travel down Broadway (between the elementary schools), east on Well Street, then north onto Main, finally ending at the intersection of Main and Wise.
- Homecoming Game vs. Branson, Bulldog Stadium, 7 pm
- Homecoming Week Theme Days: Monday - Hat Day; Tuesday - Hawaiian; Wednesday - Super Hero; Thursday - College Day; and Friday - Tie Dye/60's Day

Storm Shelter Ribbon Cutting |
Storm Shelter Update
Carl Junction Schools welcomed the community to view all three of the new storm shelters on August 15. Parents, students, and the community had a chance to tour and be a part of the dedication and ribbon cutting for the multifunctional facilities. The storm shelters were built with funds from the November 2014 $16.5 million bond issue.
The shelters west of the Primary 2-3 building and south of the high school building will be open for public use when
Severe Thunderstorm Warnings or Tornado Warnings are issued regardless of the time of day. V
olunteers are needed to assist during weather events outside of regular school hours. To volunteer or for more information about the shelters, please go to www.cjr1.org/stormshelters or call (417) 649-7026.

The All-School Reunion will be held during Homecoming weekend this year. All CJHS graduates are invited to attend. The Alumni Association will have a float in the parade on Friday the 16th. That evening, at the football game, alumni who have registered for the reunion will have free admission into the game and will be able to sit in the reserved alumni section.
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 17: CARL JUNCTION HIGH SCHOOL
10 AM:
Alumni Reception- time to renew friendships and meet other CJ alumni. Refreshments will be served. Rooms are available for any class groups that want to hold individual class meetings.
5:30 PM:
Alumni Dinner - Cost for the evening meal is $26/person.

Technology Student Association shines at National Conference
Carl Junction Junior High Technology Student Association (TSA) competed at the National Conference over the summer, bringing home two national championships and two second place wins. Seven students competed: Ashley Stokes, Kasey Chappel, Audrey Garoutte, Payne Ridgeway, Daniel Cory, Trenton Dennis, and Miles Stamper.
- The team of Dennis, Stokes, and Stamper placed first in System Control Technology, an event where the team of three is given a real-life problem and has less than three hours to design, build, and program a working robotic model system to solve the problem.
- The team of Stokes, Chappel, Cory, and Ridgeway placed first in the Humanoid Robotics competition, a demonstrative event involving programing a robot to either tell a story or dance to a song. The team of Dennis, Garoutte, and Stamper placed 2nd in this event.
- Stokes, Ridgeway, and Garoutte placed second in Tech Bowl, an event in which a team of three must place in the top 16 teams in a written Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathmatics (STEM) general knowledge test. Then the top teams must fight through the bracket in an academic bowl-like competition with questions about science, technology, engineering, math, and TSA. To reach their second place spot, they defeated 79 teams to get to the oral round, and then defeated another 14 teams in the final.
- The students placed in the top 12 in Chapter Team, an event where six students run a business meeting. The students each took on a leadership role: President (Ashley Stokes), Vice President (Daniel Cory), Secretary (Audrey Garoutte), Treasurer (Miles Stamper), Reporter (Kasey Chappel), and Sergeant-at-arms (Payne Ridgeway).
Technology Student Association competitions feature a wide range of events including: Career Prep, Challenging Technology Issues, Chapter Team, Forensic Technology, Leadership Strategies, Medical Technology, Humanoid Robotics, Prepared Speech, Problem Solving, System Control Technology, and Tech Bowl. TSA is a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and the clubs include more than 240,000 members nationwide.

CJ Graduate Trains to be Military Pilot
Kricket Masters learning to fly in Corpus Christi, Texas

(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) - A 2011 Carl Junction High School graduate participates in the lengthy and rigorous training process that transforms new officers into Military Aviators.
2nd Lt. Kricket Masters is a Marine student pilot with the "Rangers" Navy Training Squadron (VT-27), based in Corpus, Christi, Texas, that operates the T-6B Texan II aircraft. As a student, Masters is responsible for learning how to fly multi-engine and land based aircraft both effectively and efficiently to support the Navy's mission of defending the world's skies.
"I enjoy the every day challenge of being a pilot," said Masters. "Things are always changing, and you have to keep your head in the game to succeed."
Serving in the military, Masters is learning about being a more responsible leader, Marine, and person through handling numerous responsibilities.
"Since serving, I have learned a lot about leadership," said Masters. "Being around people in the military has shown me how much someone is willing to do for you when there is a mutual respect . I've also learned how to put others first and ensure that people are taken care of both professionally and personally."

| Shape the Future by being a mentor!
Bright Futures is looking for caring adults to become Bulldog Buddy mentors. Buddies are paired with a student who is facing challenges that may keep him/her from being successful in school. Buddies visit at least twice a month, sharing in either breakfast or lunch and conversation. Adults do not need to plan activities, teach lessons, or do anything other than
just listen and encourage.
There are a great many benefits to having mentors in our schools. Studies have shown that students who have mentors are more likely to graduate and less likely to try illegal drugs. They are also better communicators with higher self-confidence. Mentors also benefit from the relationship. Mentors report being happier and healthier than they were before they started volunteering. Giving a small amount of your time can make a huge difference to our students.

- All-Sport Athletic Passes: The CJ Athletic Booster Club is selling All-Sport Season Passes which are valid for all junior high and high school HOME regular-season athletic events. It is not valid for tournaments or special events. A family of 4 is $125 or an individual pass is $65. - Athletic Booster Club Meeting: Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 6 pm in the High School Media Center. Everyone interested in CJ Junior High and High School is encouraged to attend.
- Big 8 Lifetime passes: If you currently have a Big 8 Conference Lifetime pass, we would like to exchange it for a Carl Junction Lifetime Pass. These are available at the High School Office or at the gate at any upcoming athletic events.
